Canon PowerShot S20 Digital Camera Questions & Answers
I have a Canon powershot
Canon uses a copper sheet to cool the IC that menages the CF memory card. Use air to clean the copper sheet and make sure it cools the IC by firm contact, will fix your camera.
CAmera wwill not turn on
Hi,
This
is a common problem and there are few tricks you could use.First, pull
out the battery for few minutes, say 15 minutes and then put the battery
back and check the same.If problem persists, then take some cleaning
solution and clean the battery connectors. If there is dirt, dust or
rust on the battery connectors, it would result in ' dead ' situation as
you mentioned.Make sure that the lens are not stuck. If the problem
still remains, it confirms an internal failure. In most cases, i have
seen blown IC's or diodes on the power board on it. If you have an
electronics experience, could read schematics and would be able to keep
precautions, i would be glad to provide you with a link to purchase
service manual and provide you with some pointers. Repair is not a wise
option unless it is under warranty as repair would cost more than $100.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
Lost manual
Go to this
link. In the US this model was called the PowerShot S400.
Overseas Use
If this is true, then why does the manual for my new PowerShot SD1100 IS say, "Do not connect compact power adapters or battery chargers to devices such as electrical transformers for foreign travel because it may lead to malfunctions, excessive heat generation, fire, electric shock or injury."
Is this just a standard disclaimer in case something weird happens by using a transformer to charge the battery?
All cards messed up
This is a just a thought but some of the better CF cards have a small generally white switch on them. When it is flipped you can not write to or erase of format the cards. If you have the switch try flpping it and see if this changes anything.
Error 50
The "E50" error code indicates formatting a storage card has failed.
Solution
To clear the "E50" error, try performing the following procedure.
1. Try using another storage card.
If you have another CF card, try loading it in the camera.
If the error code is not displayed when the other storage card is loaded, there may be something wrong with the first one rather than with the camera.
2. Use your computer's ScanDisk utility to check the storage card for errors.
Use ScanDisk to check the storage card for card error or card failure.
Refer to the instruction manual for your operating system or Windows Help for further instructions.
(If you are using a Macintosh, use the "Disk First Aid" program to check for card error or card failure. Refer to the instruction manual for your Macintosh OS for further information.)
Be sure to back up the data on the storage card on the computer before you check the storage card.
If a card error or card failure occurs when you use your computer's ScanDisk, there is something wrong with the storage card.
Follow ScanDisk's on-screen instructions to solve the problem.
