I'm not sure the d420 has a jumper for BIOS reset on the motherboard. I think you will need to remove the small CMOS battery under the keyboard (for around 15 minutes) to reset the BIOS password and settings.

if windows xp so install skyp 5.09 version it wil work fine and remember don't update your skyp

Make sure you enter the correct password on the back of the Hub, or press the Virgin Media button on the side when it asks for a password.

This model does not have a webcam built into it.

Try and check the speed setting of your media player and vlc player by right click on the media player>Enhancements>Play speed setting. See image below.

This model does NOT have a built in webcam.

The easiest solution would be to replace both items, go to www.ebay.com Type make and model of laptop, refine search to CD/DVD drive and the same for battery. Then you can attempt a repair or reload the operational system from scratch.

Generally that means that there is an issue with boot file on the usb drive and you should try to recopy the files that you are using to try and boot from.

Try installing the latest modem and LAN driver.You can download the device drivers from Dell WEB site,the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop,better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages,the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. There is one test to determine if it is the screen causing the problem or maybe the lcd converter.
Plug an external monitor into your laptop and see if the picture is good...if it is then replace the lcd screen.
If there is still no picture then the problem is probably the lcd inverter needs replacement

There are a number of reasons that the unit could be freezing up.

1. Corrupted file(s)
2. Low available disk space
3. Viruses and/or malware
4. Too many add-ons/toolbars/etc.
5. Heat build-up

Number one is the hardest to find. So start with #2. The computer needs free hard drive space to operate. If the disk is nearly full or is very fragmented, this can slow the machine to a crawl. Even those that draw air from the rear and exhaust to the side will often intake large amounts of dust, grit, and lint. These can partially or completely clog the heat sink unit and cause heat buildup of the processor. This will cause the processor to work slower and can actually cause it to thermally lockup, resulting in the need to reboot. Many units can be accessed to clean with a removable cover on the bottom; others may need to be serviced by a technician to clean.

NO if you do, a noob will blow it to kingdom come. as in letting the smoke out. the power-pack does 3 things it has the correct DC voltage and wattages and #2 prevents fire when the PC fails and things short inside. and prevents huge damaging surges landing inside the PC buy used power pack off fleabay and win. i bet I'd mow one lawn and and buy one
