I have a sony KV-30HS420

Hi
Get the set to reset fist and see whether it helps you. To reset it do the folloing:
1 Press POWER to turn on the TV
2 Hold down RESET on the remote control.

3 Press TV POWER on the TV. (The TV will turn itself off, then back
on.)
4 Release RESET.
If this process does not solve the proble of your TV, its memory IC has damaged. Memory IC is one which holds the data we enter to the TV set, and the processed is stored. It is a nn volatile memory [the memory stored in it won't get lost even power is switeced OFF]; which holds all the data in. The data stored in it will retrive to main system processing IC each time we switch ON the TV set. This is an eight terminal IC, very samll one indeed, can be located very near to the main system control IC, at system control section. It can be repalced. This IC can be bought from most of the electronic spare part shops at your town. It is very cheap to buy. Even though it is very small and cheap one, its function in TV circuit is great. Almost all the functions data is stored in it each time we operate the system. It will have a specific number printed on it, and should be noted when buy a new one. Insist on that number, substitutions or an other number won't even switch ON your TV. OK.

7 blinks

There's a bad MCZ ic. It's got 10-12 legs. There are 2 of them. It's the one located closest to the back of the T.V. You can heat your T.V. up to get it working again using a blow drier until you can get it repaired.

Watching espn hd, the picture cuts off on one

There's a resolution/aspect ratio you can adjust in the picture menu, or straight from the remote. Choose the size you want on ESPN that best fits the picture while watching it.

Will not turn on

Check all fuses, if you replace fuse and it blows immediately then the two main culprits are power supply semiconductors and line output stage. even if fuses are not blown those are the two areas I would look at
Check for dry joints around the line output transformer also. That is a common fault.
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
I appreciate your vote if you appreciate my reply.

Either your power supply is bad and needs replaced, or their is other circuitry issues. Bets to have a trained technician look at this and give you a quote for repair, it might be cheaper in the long run to replace the set.

For the KV30HS420, 6 blinks, pause, 6 blinks, etc. means "LOW +B OCP/OVP (overcurrent/overvoltage)" and the probable cause locations listed are as follows:

1. +5 line is overloaded (A, B, M boards)
2. +5 line is shorted (A, B, M boards)
3. IC504 is faulty (A board)

hope this helps John

Light blinks three times but

  • Three blinks - B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.

It may be made up of a few faults but the power supply is a good place to start.
Hope this helps

I have a 6 year old(nov 04) Sony KV-30HS420 that

If the screen goes rather bright green it is one of two things:

1. It is possible it is a shorted green gun in the picture tube, there are three of them, red, green and blue guns in neck of the tube.

2. The other possible reason is there is a problem on the small circuit board at the end of the picture tube, this model should use three IC chips, one for each red, green and blue.

Being intermittent makes it hard to tell but ask the shop if they tried the self check this set should have. With the set turned off use the original Sony remote and hit Display, 5, vol down, and power.

If the set has a self check (it should) a box will appear on the screen with up to five items with a zero to the right of each, items will be like AKB, OVP, etc, and if any have something other than a zero to the right it pinpoints what happened.

Sets with this feature record each event where something goes wrong, ANYTHING other than a 0 indicates what failure was detected.

If I was to make a guess there will be a number next to AKB, which is Anti-Kine Bias, this means the picture tube or something on the board at the end of it drew too much current and the set's shut down circuit turned the set off.

I actually fixed one of these where both the blue and red IC chips on that board were bad, needless to say, I replaced all three of them.

Any good shop would know about the self check and even if the set did not shut down in the shop the self check would point to the area where the problem is.

Let me know if you need more help or find a error code.

What is a bad remote

Hello
In all remote controlled optioned TVs have an internal circut section and a remotes sensor inside the front panel boad of that TV. The remote control hanset produces infrared rays of differnt frequencies, as we push each of its buttons. The frequency will be entirely different to one an other.
Infrared invisible rays are generated by an LED[ Light Emitting Diode], which fitted on the front side or the remote control hanset, and is directed to the infrared sensor window at the front pannel of the Tv, and will fall onto the infrared sensor inside it, and that sensor will convert these signals to digital format and gives it to the system control Ic to process.
The infrared sensor is a 3 leged element, which can be located inside the front panel of your TV, just back to the infrared window. It may get damaged, or may not get proper volttage. It shuld be replaced, if damaged, or find out the reson for the voltage drop, or no voltage condition.
Normally infrared failure is common. It is not so costly as you think, here in India we can get for about Rs25/= comes about 1/2 US Dollar. Ok.

The tv go off

Hi,
7 times standby blinking error code shows problem of "Horizontal Deflection Stopped" and most possible causes are:
+B overcurrent is detected (IC5007)
Or overheating is detected (Thermistor TH5002)
Both parts are located on main board of tv.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

TV goes to green, sound stays on a few seconds then TV shuts off.

Sounds like you have a bad picture tube. More than likely the CRT could be shorted, which would cause the set to shut down.
My first advise would be to power up the set with an isolation transformer with the voltage about 60% approx. 72 Volts AC, and monitor what happens when you increase the voltage slowly.
If the set remains on at 60 -70 %, then when increased to 90 - 100% it shuts down, you have something drawing too much current ( which could be the CRT )

HDMI Video not working on kv-30hs420 but audio works

AmigaDude posts how to reset the video to factory settings here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=766771

The instructions are as follows: 1 - Turn on TV and set input to port being used.
2 - Make sure PS3 is connected via correct cable.
3 - Power on PS3 via power button and HOLD IT for 5 seconds (release after the second beep). It should automatically configure your PS3 to the TV's native resolution for all settings.

Once reset, you'll connect your RCA cables (Red/White/Yellow) and set up the PS3 display settings. To get there from the XMB bar, go to Settings > Display Settings. You might have to disconnect the HDMI cable from the PS3 before the RCA cables work. I don't remember entirely.
Select Video Output Settings > HDMI > Automatic. If you can see the prompt about a max resoultion of 1080i (with your HDMI cable plugged in) you should be good. Select Yes and press X to continue. You can set up the audio but it's not necessary. Select Finish and you should be good.
