I had the same problem with my 7 year old Sharp Aquos 37 inch LCD TV and took it to the service center and replaced the panel board which costed me around 7000 INR (USD 100) and it has been 1 year and no problems whatsoever. Service center guys told me flicker of pictures is a indicator of the panel board issue. I had no other choice but to go with the recommended option or replacing a panel board or buy a new TV.

To reset that unit unplug the power cord, hold down the power button on the unit and plug it back in. Wait about 10 seconds, release the power button and then press it again and see if it comes on.
