Have audio with NO video is not a strange thing. It is only for you! Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

Toshiba TN50X81 50 TV

More likely is the set is in shutdown---most common issue on this type of set is the convergence---to know you would have to locate and unsolder both 18 pin convergence chips---with them out of the circuit if the set comes on (will not look good) one of the two chips is shorted--these sets have very good protection circuits to prevent many parts from being destroyed at one time..5_26_2012_3_32_10_pm.jpgThese are the chips--STK number is right on the front.

Your TV is going into shutdown mode. The most common cause is a problem in the convergence IC's. Both chips will have to be replaced and at a cost of around $350 for most shops. Thx

This could be almost anything. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4916941-diagnose_repair_projection_tv_high which explains the process for finding the problem, walking a non technical person through it and listing places to get parts at a good price. If this tip does not solve the problem it has a link to another tip which explores more problems your set could have. Good luck. Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the generous rating.

Here are instructions on how to get into the TECH menu to adjust convergence--Understand if once you get there and red or blue are skewed and will not adjust--the convergence chips this set uses are bad.

Just look to see if it will or will not adjust.

If this information helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

With the set on press MUTE on the remote.

Then press and HOLD mute for several seconds and while still holding it on the remote press Menu on the front of the set.

A (S) should appear in the upper right corner of the screen. (It means you are in the Service mode)

Press menu again on the front of the set

7 on the remote will call up the convergence grid

3 on the remote will change the color to adjust from red to green to blue(do not adjust GREEN)

You navigate the grid with 2, 4, 6, and 8 buttons.

To stop the cursor from blinking so you can adjust at any point use the 5 button—to move again use the 5 button.

When you finish you exit by hitting 7 on the remote again.

Sometimes you have to try a few times to get into the menu—I have had my problems but once in it is easy.

This is a early HD set---what I call first generation--IT DOES NOT HAVE THE 16 X 9 FORMAT.

Many of the early HD sets are like this--4 x 3 or letter box type HD picture only.

Sorry to give you bad news but based on the model number it does not have 16 X 9 format.

If this helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

No Picture

hi
A power regulator or a sweep power supply problem. The power regulators in the main power supply, and will have or start with STR###-## The # are numbers or letters. This is a repair that should be done by an amature or layman. This is a solid state set, and there are no user replaceable parts inside these sets. Have it looked at by a trained tech.
From your description, I suspect you have a power supply problem. It sounds like set is turning off because the power supply is not regulating properly. I would suspect you have a few Capacitors in the regulator circuit failing.
If you were to take this set into a shop for repair, I would expect the cost to be around $150.00 to fix it.
If you are going to look at it yourself. I would look for bad caps in the regulator section
If you are going to work on this yourself, I would recommend finding someone with television repair experience and the proper test equipment to help you. Television picture tubes contain, High voltage. You can be shocked even it the set is unplugged If the tube is not properly discharged.

hope u will b helpfull

Convergence Issue on Toshiba TN50X81 - Service Manual & Parts Source?

Replace the convergence IC's - P/N STK192-110 with part STK192-150 or 180. Then you can go back in and make the detailed convergence settings and get your picture back in alignement. Also check the flame-resistant resistors around the ICs to make sure that none of them have opened up.
