In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.
Before going further; try a hard reset first. If it does not help you, replace the main digital board. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here.

Zenith sets, like most others now, are adjusted electronically through a service menu. You'll need your original remote control (or a Zenith-brand universal replacement with a MENU key) to access the menu. Press and hold the MENU button until the channel number and time display goes away, then press 9, 8 , 7, 6, ENTER. This puts you into service mode.
In service mode, CHANNEL UP and CHANNEL DOWN move through the different settings, and VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN change the values. Make sure you write down the original value of anything before you change it so you can put it back if necessary. One of the reasons the manufacturers hide the service menu is because the set can be damaged by incorrect settings to some of the parameters.
On some models, you can't get to all the parameters unless you change
one called F MODE from 00 to 01. You might need to do this on yours.
The list of parameters varies by model and features. I haven't worked on a Zenith in a long time so I don't remember exactly what yours says, but you want to find two settings for V SIZE (vertical size) and V POS (vertical position). Adjust the size first by lowering the value until the top and bottom of the screen are black. Then adjust the position so the picture is centered (black strips close to equal size). Finally, increase the size until the picture fills the screen again. It's normal to adjust for a little overscan, meaning you push the top and bottom a little bit out of view. If you stop too soon, on some channels you might see flashing lines at the top of the picture.
When you're finished adjusting, turn the TV off to exit service mode. If you needed to change the F MODE setting, put it back to 00 first. Your picture should be properly sized after all this.

Depending on your market, it sounds like all of the other analogue channels have been terminated (not your son's fault) in order to provide stronger HD signals. You may need to run to wallmart and get that $50 decoder box.

My zenith CD/DVD duplicator LCD light on but no ready
If the LCD light on your Zenith CD/DVD duplicator is on but it is not showing as "ready," it is possible that there is an issue with the duplicator's internal components or settings. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:
Check the disc trays: Make sure that all of the disc trays are closed properly and that there are no discs stuck inside the duplicator. If a tray is open or a disc is stuck, the duplicator will not be able to operate properly.
Check the power source: Make sure that the duplicator is plugged into a working power source and that the power cable is securely connected to the duplicator. If the power source is not providing enough power, the duplicator may not be able to operate.
Check the settings: Check the duplicator's settings to ensure that it is set up correctly for the type of disc you are trying to duplicate. For example, if you are trying to duplicate a DVD, make sure that the duplicator is set to duplicate DVDs and not CDs.
Reset the duplicator: Try resetting the duplicator by unplugging it from the power source for a few minutes, then plugging it back in and turning it on. This can sometimes resolve minor issues with the duplicator's internal components.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it is possible that there is a more serious issue with the duplicator's hardware or software. In this case, it may be best to contact Zenith customer support or a professional technician for further assistance.
