There are 5 basic, but solvable reasons for what you described. Please pay particular attention to numbers 1& 2.

1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%. If you have a mechanical unit,
uni, set the control knob to Maximum.

2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter.

3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.

4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to
clean the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.

5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder level
in basement applications. Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.

If none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity condenser sensor may have failed. These things usually occur in units that are 5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it can happen.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot & solve the problem.

Didn't LG produce some bad Humidifiers several

If has not produced a drop of water for several years, then it's not working properly. But, this may be a case of setting the humidity level to high. In other words, if you set it at 70% or Maximum, that's the humidity level that it will maintain, not remove. To remove humidity, the level must be set low (35% or Minimum).

To test the unit, based on what I just said, place it in the bathroom, set the level as low as possible and turn the shower on medium hot. Do Not turn the bathroom exhaust fan ON. As you leave, close the bathroom door. Return in 15 minutes, turn the shower OFF and check the bucket water collected. If there's any water in it, it's working fine. It was probably a case of the humidity level being set to high.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Question edited, toss in a load of CAPS. The capacitor is likely to have failed internally. It can still produce voltage. Or the transformer that supplies power has failed. LG LD450EAL no power

Try resetting the GFI breaker, assuming it is connected to one. Also check the main breaker panel to make sure the breaker is not tripped. Unfortunately the electronic panels do go bad in these systems after a few years of service. Try resetting the unit. There should be a tiny reset button on the back. Also if the bucket is full it will not turn on, make sure it is in place and seated properly or it will not turn on. There may be a reset on the cord itself as well, hope this helps.

My lg 65 pint dehumidifier is set at 40%. however it is turning on and off every 30 seconds or so. is this worth fixing considering it is 3 yrs old?

if thats where you run it at 40 i suspect it's overheating and shut off possibly broken now , one should never set a humidistat less than say 66%rh as a normal house is 70%rh and asking anything more of a home unit is just not possible if moisture is that much a problem try running two units about twenty feet apart , they will cycle more to cool down and will run longer , might even be more efficient than running one harder
