There can be a number of reasons why it stopped working. But given the age of the shaver, it's probably not worth trying to fix. I'd recommend getting a newer unit. Try the 8995 360 Complete model.

I'm pretty sure that the batteries are part of a sealed unit with the PCB on this model, and after checking the Service Diagram I'm even more convinced.

I would suggest fully charging and discharging (leaving it running without the foil and cutter on) a number of times to see if you can improve the performance, as there may be a memory effect on the battey. The model is only 5 years old so your batteries should have a little more life.

It is a mains/rechargeable shaver though, so you "should" still be able to use it with the lead plugged directly into the shaver. So the shaver may not be a dead loss! :)

When the razor is not regularly cleaned in the cleaning station and the hygiene indicator goes low, the cleaning station may lose its ability to sense the fluid level. I almost sent the cleaning station in for repair (mine is out of warranty) but was able to clear the faulty condition by resetting the razor's cutter replacement (holding the small recessed reset button below "Braun" logo on the razor) and unplugging/replugging the station then attempting a cleaning until it performed one completely successful cleaning cycle. After that the fluid level showed full. I also heard that the drain hole in the "cup" where the razor sits can get clogged - not sure what happens then but you want to keep that clean.Update 2/2018: If you mix your own formula as others note, it is important to include some tap water for electrical conductivity for the fluid sensor to work.

It is just an alcohol solution with a very small amount of cleaning solution. A jewelry cleaner premixed would do it.

If you are having the same problem with both your old and new foils and cutters it sounds like there is a problem with the oscillator in the swivel frame. Sometimes the plastic oscillator inside will partially break and it can not vibrate under the load of the foil and cutters.

The symptoms you describe indicate that the 'drive unit' is the problem. This part includes the swivel frame that the foils and cutters fit onto as well as the motor. Sometimes a piece of the plastic oscillator inside will break. The vibration causes the loud noise and it can not oscillate properly because of the break. Look on the back of shaver and you will see the little rubber points on the body of shaver. Gently pry these out and with a decent small screwdriver you can then remove the screws to gently pry apart the shaver . You will have to remember how the parts fit together, but there is not that many . The batteries are soldered together and you will have to heat the solder to remove them.

i think battery is totally damaged. better to replace with a new one.
