Mongoose MGX Maxim Dual Suspension Mountain Bicycle Questions & Answers
HOW DO I REMOVE THE CRANK
If I remember right the threads on the pedals are left handed, which means you turn in opposite direction than normal. then you unscrew the nut on the crank. The race for the bearings will have a slot. Use a screwdriver to turn it the normal way. Take out that bearing. Then move crank a little way to the other side to get bearing out from the inside race. Then you should be able to pull crank through.
On the newer bikes, the crank can be dismantled on each side so all you have is a shaft to remove. You still remove the race and bearings the same way.
Rear wheel wobbles
It sounds like your spokes are loose. Unless you have experience in tightening spokes you need to take the bike or wheel to a dealer. It is very easy to get the wheel wrapped if you have never done this before.
I want a tech manual for Bicycle Cassette repair
Replacing the cassette involves specialized tools. Your best bet is to visit a bike shop (a *shop* is where the employees ride and know bikes, rather than a *store* that just sells) and talk with them. They'll show you what you need, and describe the procedure if you want to spend the money on the tools.
Can i stiffen up the tension in my front forks on
Sorry to inform you, but there is no adjustments available for the forks that come with your bike. Adjustable forks (just the fork) start in around $250-.
On the positive side since there is not adjustment capability the fork does not need regular servicing like the adjustable forks.
How Heavy Is the Mongoose Maxim?
There are no published weights, which would not be accurate anyway.
You have to get ahold of one and weigh it, that is the only way to know.
My flywheel is making a
if by the flywheel your referring to the back gear cluster than its probably time to get it replaced around 30$ should do it if you dont have the tool to do it a shop call will be needed but take this advise when you drive on the same gears for an extended amount of time they stretch and wear into themselves making any new additions to the drivetrain useless meaning you might have to replace the whole drivetrain ........i myself have gotten caught with this and i had to pay out 350$ as i ride a highend bike so my man get your cluster fixed then have patience as sometimes it wont fit your chain depending on the age of it if and when you fix this shops offer chain checking for free and they have a tool to measure the stretch% ok hope this helps you...............ps all the bike specific tools needed to do these repairs are often the same price as 1 shop call that required them ok little secret
How do i raise the handlebar on a 1999 MGX
You can only raise a quill stem os far safely. Loosen the vertical center bolt that's in line with the steerer tube a few turns and then tap down on it with a block of wood or rubber mallet to unseat it. The stem should be loose enough to turn independently of the front wheel. You can also raise it somewhat, but look carefully for the "maximum height" or equivalent markings etched into the stem body. Don't expose any more stem than up to that line. Line up your handlebars with the front wheel and securely tighten that bolt. It should be tight enough to vigorously resist independent rotation when you hold the front wheel bewteen your knees and attempt to turn the handlebars.
If it's a new-style threadless type stem, the maximum height was determined when they assembled the bike because they had to cut the steerer tube to be below the top edge of the stem. Go to a Bike Shop and have them replace the stem with one that has a higher rise or shorter reach.
I found this bike in the dumpster in my apartment
Take the bike to your local bike shop, they will be able to assess what the bike will need. Most likely though there is a good reason that it was in the dumpster and the cost will be much higher than you want to spend.
My gears dont work
Is the cable broken? You have to be on the bike and pedaling to get them to move, They are pretty simple mechanical things, the only that can go wrong is a broken cable, and maybe out of range stops. It will cause the chain to fall off one end or the other, There are little screws that stop it from going too far. Thumb shifter too tight? Check it out.
Loose handlebars on a Mongoose XR-75 mountain bike
Check the splines on the handle bar. Just loosen the "clamp" and slide the bar over to one side enough so you can tell if the are stripped or not. If they are then replace the bar, if not then reassemble and try to put a littlle extra torque on the bolt.
I have noticed with the 2 of these bikes that I have that the bars do not like to stay tight for long, they tend to work thier way loose about every other time we use them. I just keep tightening them untill the splines strip, then pick up a new bar.

Bike chain broke on my 21speed promax A series
You will need to first determine what the chain broke. If it is because of where you will need to replace the can with a new on. If it was anothe reason then you have a couple options. If you want to repair this yourself you will need to have a bicycle chain tool. Otherwise your local bicycle shop can reinstall the chain for a very low cost, less then the cost of a new chain tool.
If you are going to install it you can remove the bad link and reinstall the chain, however this will likely make you chain too short.
If you are going to replace the chain:
1. Lay the old chain out completely.
2. Cut the new chain the same length as the old chain. If using the quick link provided then make sure to cut the chain with two male ends and make it one link shorter then the original chain.
3.Start installing the chain from the rear derailleur. Start putting the chain in from the lower pulley(wheel on derailleur). Push over the lower pulley and under the upper pulley. Then back up behind and over the cassette (gears on the rear)
4. Now continue pulling the chain to the front. Go through the front derailluer and down around the chainrings.
5. Connect with the other end of the chain.
6.Use the quick link provided with the new chain or push the pin back into the chain (unless in is a shimano chain, then use the provided new pin)
I HAVE A MGX MOUNTAIN BIKE. WERE THE PEDAL ARE
im certain that model has a 3 piece crank set up. the inner crank bearing jam nut has loosened up or the bearings themselves have gone bad.first check to see if its tight, if it is then it will require a replacement set of bearing that are a pretty standard size to all bikes and can be purchased at nearly every bike shop.
