It should hold between 36 and 44 ounces. Stand the bike as straight up as you can and still be safe. Remove the derby cover and drain the old oil. Refill the primary with oil until the oil level is right at the bottom of the outer clutch drum. If you fill it too high, your clutch will drag and you' will not be able to find neutral with the engine running.

Where's the oil drain plug for 2010 low fatboy harley

Which of the three drain plugs. Primary is on primary case below derby cover; transmission is on right side middle bottom of transmission, engine is at bottom of right rear frame down tube intermediately forward of rear tire. ALL are 5/8 inch hex plugs with 1/4 inch Allen socket in the middle of the plug.

I have a 1999 fatboy what oil do I use in engine, trans & primary?

On a '99 Fatboy, you can use H-D Syn3 20W50 engine oil in all three locations. But, you can use most any lubricant you wish as long as it meets Harley's specifications. Amsoil, Royal Purple, Mobil V-Twin, just check the manufacturer's website for compatibility. On the Evo engines, I use H-D or Mobil V-Twin synthetic 20W50 engine oil. I use nothing but H-D transmission and primary lubricant in those two locations.

In my first attempt to change my engine oil, I drained oil from bottom of my 2001 Fatboy, from the plug on the right side towards the front of the engine, just below the Twin Cam Cover and floor board,...

I'm not that familiar with the Twin Cam engine but from what you're saying, Harley has a drain or something in the cam chest of the Twin Cam engine. This is something new for Harley as the previous engines had no means of draining the cam chest. I would imagine that this is what the oil you saw was, oil in the cam chest waiting to be pumped back to the oil tank by the oil pump that is located in the cam chest. When you restart the engine, this area will again fill itself to the proper level.

Can i put a 96" top end kit on my 2000 road glide

I think you can but I'd have to tell you to consult your local dealer to verify. As my profile states, I specialize in Evolution and earlier model Harleys. I do not work on the Twin Cams but I do try to offer assistance when I can.

I seem to remember that when Harley introduced the 88" Twin Cam engine, they offered a 96" kit for it. They said that the kit could be installed on the bottom end without the necessity of boring the "spigot holes" in the cases. This is NOT the case with the Evolution and earlier engines.

I hope this is correct. Please check with your local shop to make certain.

How much oil to add in the primary 2000 88 twin cam

the book says 36-44 ounces. That's a pretty large range. Too much oil will cause your clutch to drag making it impossible to find neutral with the engine running.

Here's what I do. Stand the bike straight up with the derby cover off, that's where you add the oil. Look at the clutch assembly. It mostly made of bright colored aluminum. Inside is a round spring that is usually darker in color. Fill the primary to just below the lowest point of this spring. Do not overfill. As long as you've got enough oil for the starter ring gear to sling the oil around in the primary, you've got enough oil.

Hello I have a 1999 Harley Fatboy and I need to know if the same three Oil Compartments explained by the CycleSurgeon apply to my 99 as well. Also, the dealership sold me a high grade synthetic oil and...

Yes, your '99 Fatboy, has the last of the Evo engines in it. They didn't come out with the Twin Cam 88 B engine until 2000. Still, you have three oil compartments, the engine, the primary, and the transmission.

And yes, you can run the H-D Syn3 oil in all three compartments. The engine holds three quarts, the primary holds about a quart (fill to the bottom of the outer clutch drum), and the transmission uses 20-24 ounces.

I hope this answers your questions.

Tensioners

Drain the primary and remove the primary chaincase cover. There are 2 bolts with lockplates and washers thats hold the shoe. Remove them, install the new shoe, reinstall the 2 bolts. The lockplate is installed outside of the washers. Thats it
