I have a 2007 gsxr 1000, a few months ago the speedometer started jumping all over the place, so did the tach...that issue went away, now the gear indicator is doing the same thing, showing different gears than the one I am in...with the speedo problem I did'nt have any driveability issues, but it's been surging while accelerating, mostly during 2nd and 5th gear, but does it in any gear. I need help, i've replaced the spark plugs recently and it seemed to lighten up the issue, but it's still present..just for your info. I did install a roaring toys megaphone exhaust pipe, it is not a full setup but it did require removing what I assume is a catalytic converter that sits at the bottom of the bike. Thought that info might help, other than that, there have been no mods. to engine components. Help, it's annoying me to death!!

The speed sensor might be bad. I used to own a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse with the same symptons. The car will start, but will not pass the 1st or 2nd gear, the speedometer will be at 0. I replaced the speed sensor and all the problems went away.
The best way to check if the bendix is kicking out to engage is to bench test the starter. remove the starter and place a ground wire to the frame or housing of the stater and touch a 12v hot lead to the pos post of starter being careful not to let starter jump away from you. when the starter engages the gear should come out to the end of it's travel, the starter gear is spring loaded.
Hello: This is a common problem. The cluster is faulty. Check battery cables for clean and tight. Check all grounds. I don't think it could have anything to do with pulling away from a stop. Is the transmission slipping?
there is a problem with the guage cluster units in these trucks, it has to be changed at the dealer because they need to reprogram the mileage. on certain vehicles, there was actually a recall / hidden warranty, so make sure you look into that.

Actually the ? was about the 1000 not "most sport bikes". The Suzuki gsxr1000 for 2007 is rev limited to 184 mph. U do the math to figure out kph but in the U.S. who cares about the metric numbers.
