I have a problem with the clutch on my 1997 SUZUKI RM 125. My problem is this, when I put the bike in gear with the clutch lever pulled in, it would just go into gear. I could roll start it and drive it in all gears but without a functioning clutch It sat in a garage for about 5 or so years so I was told the gear lube was acting like an adhesive between the clutch plates. I went on and took all of the plates out, soaked them in fresh oil and replaced them back in with a new oil change. I took it out and started it up, held in the clutch, put it into first, and then it engaged, but not all the way. Just enough so that i could stand in one place but enough to kill the bike after a few seconds. after died. I tried it again only to find that i couldnt shift into or out of gear. Can you help me?

    Sounds like a simple cable adjustment....Or are you running a hydraulic clutch?.........If the clutch pack grabs then the discs are usable. It sounds like you dont have enough lever action. Adjust the cable to apply more pressure to the clutch pack to release it. If it is hydraulic ,then you need a new mastercylinder and /or bleed the one you have to get a little more life out of it.

You need to replace the clutch plates as they are probably contaminated, and clean the steel pressur plats with some fine wet and dry until clean with no rust, make sure you use the correct grade of gear oil and adjust the clucht pushrod assembly as shown in the owners manual.

Are you using the correct 10W40W wet clutch motorcycle oil? It has special friction modifiers in it for this clutch drag issue.

I am sure it's a wet clutch. Pop your bike in neutural. Remove your clutch crank case cover and, using a screwdriver, separate the plates manually. Put the tip of your screwdriver between the edge of the clutch plates and turn the screwdriver. It will break the seal of your plates and spacers. Put it all together again. Do a fluid flush and refill your oil to recommended levels. Get the bike running again and give it a go. Should be fine. Good luck!

Everytime i pull the clutch in on my suuki rm 125 and go to put it into first gear it just stalls as if i dont have the clutch pulled in can you help
You may simply just need to adjust your clutch cable. Make sure it feels like your pulling on something, there should be some resistance. Since you'll be adjusting it while the plates are cold you need to leave some free play in the lever or when your clutch pack gets hot it will start slipping and you'll end up with a smoked clutch. What I mean is grab the lever and pull it in until you start feeling resistance and then adjust it our until there is maybe a quarter inch of free play. Hope it helps. If its not that then you've got some internal problems with your plates and fibers not separating correctly.

Hi, you might find the nut holding the clutch basket onto the shaft has come loose, so instead of pulling the clutch plates apart you are just pulling the clutch basket along the shaft.
or if the bike has sat for a while you might find the clutch plates have stuck together, this isn't that rare, you can start the bike and roll it along at about 1st gear speed, then click it into gear, then pull the clutch in and rev the engine, this should make the plates loose again. hope this helps, please rate, thanks, good luck

assuming the cable is fine and you have pressure at the lever.sometimes the plates can stick together when it sits for a while. put it in top gear 6th, put the front wheel against a wall, hold the clutch in and put some weight on the kick start. or push start it and hold the clutch in and vary the throttle to try and free the clutch

Hi, sounds like the friction & metal plates in the clutch are stuck together. Has the bike sat for a while? If so, the clutch might free up if you get it started, roll along and put it in first, then get through to 4-5 gear, and holding the clutch in, accelerate & back off the throttle. Sometimes this will free them up, but careful to do it somewhere large enough. If the right type & amount of oil are in the gearbox (4 stroke car or bike engine oil that doesn't have friction modifiers in it), take the oil fill plug out 7 use a light to look at the ckutch basket. If you can see it, you should be able to pull the lever and see the pressure plate move outwards slightly. Good glycol coolant should do the job, straight coolant should be fine around 500ml. Hope this helps :)

First, try the cable adjustment at the lever end, if no more movement re-adjust inwards, then adjust at the clutch end.
If no joy, then it is either the lifter mechanism or the clutch its self.

I have a suzuki rm 125 1994 model when i pull the clutch lever in to put it in gear the clutch doesnt work t jst crunches into gear
Adjust the clutch cable to allow about 1/4" free play at the end of the clutch handle. Don't put the bike in gear until the rpms are near idle speed. The clutch is working fine if the bike does not lurch forward when going into gear at idle speed. Dirty, gritty oil in the gearbox can make the clutch grab. Consider changing oil if grabbing is the problem. The "crunch" you hear is the slider gear engaging into the driven gear. The higher the engine speed when being put into gear the louder the crunch. The slider gear engaging "dogs" can break. Crunching into gear is hard on the gears.

Clutch wont dissengage
1) Can you push the bike while it's in gear with the clutch pulled in? [If so, clutch is disengaging OK]

2) If not, check when you pull in the clutch lever that it pulls all the way through to the actual clutch [If not, replace broken clutch cable]

3) If so, clutch is binding. Either fix it properly by stripping the clutch.. or just brute-force the plates apart. :-)

Brute-force clutch plate separation: First make sure you have enough oil in the engine (wet clutch), then basically you're looking at either riding it with the clutch lever pulled in until the plates come apart or with the rear wheel in the air CAREFULLY running it in first gear against the rear brake while the clutch is pulled in.
