V-star 1100 custom stalls when dropped into 1st gear

I have a Yamaha V-star Custom 1100 (2007). I hadn't driven it for a while and upon restarting had to jump the battery. The bike idles fine, but when dropping it into 1st gear, it stalls immediately. The bike now starts fine everytime, but can't be driven because it stalls in 1st. I have another bike that I always ride, so this is not a user error issue dealing with clutch, etc. Thanks for your help anyone !!!

Check the switch connected to the kickstand. A lot of bikes will not allow you to have the bike in gear when the kickstand is down and if that switch/relay goes bad, it can result in exactly what you are describing.
