2007 Vstar 1100 custom cutting out at 1/4 throttle or more, it will still pick up speed but half what it should and it doesn't sound or feel good doing so! I'm leaning towards it being somethi

I have a 2007 Vstar 1100 custom, the bike starts up fine with or without choke, sounds ok at idle but a little bit off. It cuts out at 1/4 throttle or more. I cleaned the carbs and synced them but no change. I unplugged the rectifier/regulator to test it and it tested fine so I reinstalled it, went for a test ride and it ran great, for awhile, then went back to cutting out again. I don't know what to look for other than rectifier/regulator going bad or coils going bad or shorted wire. There is no issue so far with overcharging the battery or undercharging to my knowledge, don't know how to test for overcharging. I put new plugs in also. The exhaust seems to blow harder out of the rear cylinder tail pipe, it blew equally from both front and rear cylinder exhaust when it was running fine.

Definite misfire. Does not sound fuel related. Check for bad plugs or wires. Ignition module and crank sensor.

Testimonial: "Thank you, I think the front plug wire was arching out on the head. Seems to be doing good now."

I noticed that whenever i disconnect the battery for a bit them reconnect it the bike runs great. Does that narrow anything down for anybody?

I think I found the issue. Tbe front cylinder spark plug wire was draiped accross the cylinder head causing it to arch out making a week spark where it should have been. I need to ride it more to know for sure but as of today April 2, 2013, it been great with no fowl ups.

Bike ran good to work this morning but on the way home, about half way the bike started cutting out again, only the cuts were longer leaving me no power on the bike unless I opened up the throttle and the cut outs were at higher RPM's. I hope its just the plug wire being weekened frfom arching through to the head but I am not not. I really need to get this bike running right so help is appriciated.

Cut outs were in 4th and 5th gear only.

Been riding the bike to and from work since last wednesday and haven't had any problems until today it went back to cutting out at 1/8 to 1/4 throttle. I checked the plug wire to see if it was arching out but it wasn't touching anything anywhere. The baffles have been removed from the bike by the guy I bought it from and I don't know if he rejetted it, would that make it run bad off and on like this? I put almost 3000 miles on it since I've had it.

I am trying to replace the grips on my 2006 Yamaha vstar 1100 custom. How do you loosen the throttle cables to remove right side grip?

If you are just replacing the grips, you may not need to touch the cables, the right grip fits over a plastic throttle sleeve, you generally just cut the old one off
