2001 Harley Davidson FLSTS Heritage Springer Questions & Answers
I have a 2001 harley
Your engine is equipped with hydraulic tappets just like your car engine has. There is no way or need to adjust the valves. If you're hearing a slight tapping noise under the rocker box covers, this is normal. If you're hearing a loud tapping noise that comes and goes, it could be a roller on the end of a tappet going bad and you should have it looked into.

Where to find ground cable for 2001 flsts? The
Well, the obvious place to find a battery cable for your Harley is at the Harley Shop. But, it you don't have a shop nearby or just don't want to patronized the shop, try most any auto parts store. Take your cable with you. Some stores can even make you a cable. If you have a battery wholesaler in the area, he can make you one as well. Try some truck repair shops or automotive machine shops. Battery cables are easy to make.

Sure it could be a fuse, or a loose ground wire, or if it was wired to only operate with low beam .check for power on the hot going to the fogs.i hate to ask but are the bulbs good? test the switch if power is going to it and coming from it as well.
My fog lights won't go
There could be a fuse somewhere for those but if the rest of your lights work, it would be seperate from the rest. The fog lamps are an add-on type accessory and as such, they aren't shown on any schematic. You'll just have to trace the wires out to try to find the problem. Sorry I couldn't have been of more help.

First, is the bike stock? I've seen a lot of bikes that had been hopped up do this due to a much higher static compression created by an aftermarket camset.
Next, take the battery out and take it to a local auto parts house and have them check the battery. If it's good, take note of the CCA, cold cranking amps. Make sure all your battery connections are clean and tight. You may can get a higher rated battery.
Ignition timing may be too high. Your dealer can check that for you.
If all else fails, a high torque aftermarket starter may be the trick. They're expensive by they will crank most anything over.
Custom bike....starter "clunks" and does not turn over
Sounds like your jack shaft isnt engaging into the bushing in your outer primary... you should pull off the outer primary and try carefully filing the edges off the bushing... Also check that the jack shaft has been properly installed.... This problem is common on customs
? starter ?
Have you checked the battery? The starter requires a large draw from the battery to engage and crank the engine to start the motorcycle. If the battery does not have enough power the starter will engage but does not have enough power to physically turn the engine over. Make sure you are working with a known good battery.
