First see what code is in the computer.Cycle the key three times and stop when it in the run position. The check engine light will start blinking. The first code should blink once then pause, then two blinks. This is showing that it is in the diagnostic mode. read all codes the same way, untill it starts with 12 again. Write them down. Then remove the negative cable from your battery post, after one minute, replace neg. cable. The light should be off.If it comes on again, it has set a hard code. You must repair whatever the codes indicate. Get a list of trouble codes online at Google.

1998 dodge neon wont turnover and headlights go dim and start flickering when i try to start it

Sounds pretty "cut-and-dry" to me. You need to charge or replace the dead battery, and make sure your battery cables are CLEAN AND TIGHT and then check to make sure your alternator is charging correctly.

The "service engine soon" light just appeared on my 1997 Dodge Neon after I put in some oil. I bought the car second hand so I am not sure what oil was used before. I am wondering if anyone knows why it...

its because the car is due for a service soon,it gives you about 800 to 1000m warning of an impending bill .....
if you did lots of stop/start motoring the "service engine soon" light would come on sooner than lots of highway motoring.
just adding oil is not servicing the engine....and once done it needs reseting...

The Service Engine Soon Light means that your ECM (Computer) in your car has stored a Trouble Code for a Sensor or Component that needs attention or replacement. You will need a OBD II scanner to retrieve the code. Once you have the Trouble Code, a Mechanic or you can now diagnose the problem, fix the problem or replace the part. You can go to AutoZone and they can retrive the code for you at no charge.
