These steering columns are not all that hard to work on. You will need a steering wheel remover, then a lock plate remover (can rent for free at autozone), that is the piece under the steering wheel. Once you remove these pieces you can access the 3 torx screws that hold the upper part of the column tight to the bottom of the column. You will need to use loctite on these bolts!

Try spraying a little WD40 into the ignition . Make sure tension is off the steering wheel. Turn steering wheel back and forth while trying to remove key.

If I have to turn my steering wheel or move it up and down for it to start whats my problem.

Sounds like a possible short inside the colum, I would check the ignition switch (key switch) if not that check the ignition switch from there check for a short in the steering colum.

Key turns, gears change, but will not turn all the way to position to release key from ingnition.

You may simply have a stuck ignition tumbler in your key switch. It is a common problem. Most of the time if you have to wiggle your key around to get it to turn back to the release position, you may as well get a new key switch lock and tumbler.Sometimes they come separate. You might can get a whole new ignition key switch and simply replace your old one. Also if you have tilt wheel, sometimes the tilt mechanism can become worn and will not allow the steering column to clear the ignition switch. You will have to take the screws out of the steering column cover panels, usually they are on the bottom of the steering colum in the plastic. You have to take those off to get at the ignition switch assy. When you get it torn apart, study it for a few minutes while playing with the key switch, turning it on and off and you might see the problem there.Good luck.

The truck with steering problems is a 1984 gmc sierra classic with tilt and the colum is loaded wipers cruise ect. the steering wheel is real wobbly and the key gets stuck in on and off position try to...

Sounds like your ignition/key tumbler is worn. A lot of times tumblers can get worn to the point that the keys will stop working or work sometimes. Usually the key goes bad first, since they tend to get the most abuse. It is not expensive to replace. I hope this helps.

Ignition switch - car won't shut off cuz key is stuck in on position. Now the ignition feels hard to turn & won't start

You will need a new ignition switch. You will ether have to remove the steering wheel or the bottom plastic under the steering colum to remove. Depends what kind of car it is. The price for the switch can range from $15 to $200. But if you dont have a electronic chipped key it wont be that expensive.

How do you get a stearing colum unlock and the

hi if the problem is that the lock has locked and wont free when you try and turn the ignition on then what you should try is turning the steering wheel from left to right as hard as you can whilst you try turning the key, the problem is usually that the lock is under pressure from the tyres trying to turn the steering wheel so with this pressure on the lock the key just wont turn so you need to try and release this pressure so that the key will turn and unlock the lock.

so hold the steering wheel tight and turn it left using a bit of pressure whilst you keep trying to turn the key dont hold the key in the same possition as this wont free the lock keep turning the key on and off so that it resets and this should then allow the lock to free and you should be able to start your car, if turning the steering wheel left dont work then try right and repeat with the key on and off until the lock is off and the steering is free.

now it is going to be tight so you will need some force to turn the steering wheel as the force from the tyres will be quite alot so you will need to use force to work the steering wheel left and right whilst turning the key.

now if this still dont work then this will either mean you have a problem with the key or the actual ignition barrel has got a fault if this is the case then your going to need to get a new igniton barrel, the part the key goes into before the lock will free itself, all you need to do to remove the barrel is to remove the cover from the steering wheel surround and then you will see how the barrel comes out of its surround but dont do this until you have a new lock in case you forget how you got it apart.

the chances are the lock is just stuck and working the steering wheel left then right as far as you can will free it up if it dont then you can also try jacking the 2 front wheels off the floor like put the car on stands then try turning the steering left and right to unlock the ignition doing it this way releases the pressure from the tyres and should make it easier to unlock the steering.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

I can't put my key into my ignition like something is stuck in it

I had a similiar issue. There are a couple of things it could be. Make sure you are fully in park and try it, the key won't go in if it;s not. Second, make sure your steering wheel isn;t locked. Try turning to left or right and put the key in. I had to have mine replaced(on the steering colum).Good luck

Rplacing the ignition switch

You will need to remove the steering wheel. Then you will need to use a steering wheel lock remover to remove the lock plate. This can be purchased at most auto parts stores for 20 to 40 dollars. Next you should be able to remove the retaining screw in the ignition switch( be careful not to drop the screw in the colum housing). You may have to work the key back and forth to get the old switch out. Just repeat this process in reverse to install the new key switch.
