Thank you,I noticed the DTC of 55 but isnt that mean the completion of the fault code or that the battery has been disconnected within the past 50 key on cycles. I dont quite understand ? Thank you for any input you have to offer.

That is an OBD1 System

Your code reader won't work

You need OBD1 capable reader or
the adapter for an older scan tool

The connector is in the engine compartment

If you need to know where, I will look in my
1992 manual as I departed with my Dakota
june last year.

If you get code I will look them up for you
or tell me the problem your having.

I think the connector is hanging near the
A/C expansion valve on pass side

1996 and newer vehicles use the OBDII scanner. 1995 and older can't use the OBDII scanner, and will have to use the OBDI or other readers.

Checking Fault Codes

To obtain fault codes using the MIL (Check Engine Light):

1. Cycle ignition key to ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON within 5 second (do not actually crank engine!!)

2. Count the number of times the MIL on the instrument panel flashes on and off. The number of flashes represents the trouble code. There is a slight pause between the flashes representing the first and second digits of the code. Longer pauses seperate the individual two digit trouble code.

Example: Lamp flashes 4 times, pauses, then flashes 6 more times. This is an indicates a DTC of 46.

3. Lamp will always flash 55 at the end of the test. This signals the end of the test.

If 55 was the only code you received then that tells you that your computer didn't have any error codes. While the OBDII is more accurate, the MIL system on the older vehicles pretty well covered the main systems.

Re: 1993 Dodge Dakota, where might I find the fuel pump reset button or inertia switch? Thank you.

  • You have an Automatic Shut Down Relay or "ASD Relay" not so much a "switch." The ASD relay inside the power distribution center which is under the hood on the left corner of the engine compartment. Under the lid is a legend that will pinpoint it's location in said box. I would look at this if your having problems with the fuel pump. Should you need to replace the pump the tank must be dropped for this vehicle.

Why does my instrument cluster not pull out, even after removing the screws from my 1993 dodge dakota, bulbs burned out and Im trying to replace them, any ideas anyone?

If my memory is correct, a 93 Dakota still has a speedometer cable which may be holding it from pulling out. Look under the hood at the firewall to see if there is a cable coming out in the engine compartment. If there is you will need to try and release it from the back of the speedometer or disconnect the opposite end at the transmission (or at the speed control servo if it has cruise control) so you can pull out the cluster with the cable attached.

Trying to locate the fuse box under the hood of a 2005 Dodge Dakota. Can anyone help me locate it?

It's located on the left side of the engine compartment. You most likely looked right at it but missed it. I don't have a diagram sorry but that's where the owners manual says it is located. The power distribution box is what it's called. I know it wasn't much but I hope it helped and good luck.

Check engine code

I'm new to this website, have a problem with my '93 Dakota, 5.2L but thought I'd post to your question.

The readers would need more information than what you supplied.

On my Dakota, to check the CEL(Check Engine Light), cycle the ignition switch to RUN-OFF-RUN-OFF-RUN, then count the flashes of the CEL. There will be a distinct pause between each set of 2 number flashes, finally ending with a code of 55 signaling the end of the code display.

Some of the codes will keep the CEL lit all the time, while others will store but not light the CEL when running.
If you post the codes you see, and look them up, it might give you (and the reaers here) a better idea of your problem.
