Brake lights stay on constantly. Problem started with intermittent on condition which could be solved by pulling up on the brake pedal. Now that won't work. The brakes are somewhat spongy. Would bleeding the brakes solve this problem or is there an adjustment that could be made on the brake pedal arm? Thanks.

USUALLY at the 'hidden' end of your BRAKE PEDAL a BRAKE SWITCH resides... much like a doorbell button.
As the pedal is pressed, the BUTTON (within the Switch itself)... 'pops out' and the Switch turns on = your brake lights turn ON. Note the two "adjustment nuts" in Photo 1.
IF the SWITCH is not positioned/adjusted correctly ~ the brake lights STAY ON. Many are designed to STAY ON if the switch itself fails... The hope is "constant-on" condition will alert the owner/driver of a brake system problem!
Please know many brake light switches may be installed at the master brake cylinder (Photo 2). Note: No adjustment nuts.
Mcmom, Either your brake pedal is not coming up far enough to the brake switch, or the brake switch is faulty. You may still have air in brake system not allowing pedal to come up high enough to contact switch, pull brake pedal all the way up and have a second person see if brake lights go off.
Links below to show brake switch location and show how brake pedal arm should come all the way up to turn off brake lights.

probably switch at the brake pedal, have somebody stand behind and lift the pedal and see if it goes out, check the switch it may be out of line with the pedal. most likely it works by a button that is pushed when you push the pedal. if it is not this switch then you may have a short somewhere across the brake wire
Are the brake lights staying on with your foot off the pedal? If yes, check the brake switch above the brake pedal for a failed closed condition. Problem could also be in the brake light relay. These are likely places to look.
CHECK BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH TO SEE IF ITS TOUCHING THE BRAKE PEDAL.IF BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH OR BRACKET LOOSE AND AWAY FROM BRAKE PEDAL BRAKE LIGHT WILL STAY ON.IF BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH INTACT BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH NEED REPLACING.WHEN REPLACING BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH OR IT NEEDS ADJUSTING MAKE SURE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH PLUNGER TOUCHES BRAKE PEDAL ARM WHEN YOU RELEASE BRAKE PEDAL BRAKE LIGHTS SHOULD TURN OFF.
your brake light is always on because the stopper at the brake switch is destroyed that's why it doesn't turn off. just put something hard to fill the hole at the brake pedal.
