The code refers to the leak detection pump that is part of the gasoline vapor control system which is for pollution minimization. It says either that the pump switch or mechanical operation is faulty. According to a Chrysler manual I have, you would find the pump, probably on the underside of the vehicle by tracing the hoses related to the vapor recovery tank that may be in the right front corner of the engine compartment (I don't know Jeep designs) and then check to see if the pump starts when you turn the ignition to the run position when the vehicle is cold. Then remove the vacuum hose side of the pump and see if it draws a vacuum. If it does, then the vacuum-detecting switch that detects that the pump operation is OK may be faulty. If the pump doesn't start or doesn't draw a vacuum then the power to the pump, the pump itself, or the vacuum line may be leaky. Finally, the powertrain controller could be at fault.
In any case, that is where the issue is, and it should not be a major issue if it is handled by a knowledgeable mechanic. But you could check it over yourself if you are so inclined.

12 is a battery disconnect within the last 50 start cycles and 55 means the end of the diagnostic cycle. Basically the computer found nothing wrong. The 12 code may seem incorrect if you haven't disconnected the battery recently, but from my experience the 12 code shows up almost all the time regardless.

P0700 means there is a transmission fault code in the transmission controller. Since the transmission controller doesn't have a light attached, it tells the engine controller to turn the light on using this code. You'll have to access the transmission controller to further diagnose the problem.
SOURCE: my 93 jeep grand cherokee service 4wd switch is
Hey there, The driver info center in the 93 grand cherokee's is notorious for this message. This switch is on the transfer case and its only purpose is to tell that display what 4 wheel drive mode you are in (eg. 2 wheel, 4 wheel high, 4 wheel low, etc.) This can mean the switch bad but is USUALLY cause by a short in the display module itself. This will not affect anything on your Jeep. It is merely for driver information only. This is a very common problem and if you have a 93 in which the display is working at all your are lucky. They are very bad about going completely out over time.
