I dont know if you have checked the vacuum lines underneath the dash but my truck was doing it after i replaced the heater core and i come to find out that it was the vacuum line that comes through the fire wall that was disconnected. after i hooked it back up it started working right again.

I had same problem in my Law Enforce dakota...I followed the vacum line left of the Brake Booster down to where it broke off under the hoses on the firewall( connects to Black hose for ac heater controls above gas pedle)... I replaced with small vacum hose and now my vents work

AC is only blowing through the defrost vents in the dashboard?

I think your problem is the head unit that selects where the air comes out ie. Face, floor, defrost, or hi-level face and floor. If that's not working then it will not let you switch location that you want the air to come out.

Selection lever does not move to AC vent or floor vent only to the defrost. AC compressor does not kick in when AC is selected.
Vacuum level is at 18 instead of 23.
Any suggestions.

Air only blows out on windshield & floor when

THERE IS A VACUUM LINE THAT GOES FROM THE LEFT FRONT OF THE ENGINE TO THE VACUUM CHECK VALVE NEAR THE ACCUMULATOR. IF THAT LINE IS BROKEN THE PROBLEM YOU HAVE IS NO HVAC MODE SWITCHING.

The air cond. only blows out from the defroster vents. the heater is the same way. its on a chrysler lebaron, 1995. was told it was a relay, but don''t Know where it is located.

Its more likely the blower door actuator which directs air from defrost to vent to floor. This is vacuum driven and a leak in the vacuum lines (located under the hood beginning at the firewall) will prevent the the door from directing air where you select. Look under the hood for a vacuum leak. Best ot test it with the AC or Heat on high.

My 1998 Dodge Dakota

the AC venting is crossed. If ,at one point, you had this serviced they may have taken the vent hoses off the clean them and re-connected them wrong.
Most maintainance of AC
's recommend hoses be flushed out and backflushed to keep them working proper. Or the system was changed from freon to an alternate R chemicle.
