Can not restart after running out of gas 96 eldorado

Better get a mechanic to check it out before you drive it very much.
Could be a lifter or piston pin with no oil.

It can be a lot of things, what happened when engine stopped?

Have you checked to see if you have a blinker out? If you do, then thats your problem. If not, check your blinker fuses. Hope this helps, James Booth.

check the fuel pump,sometimes they are going out and running out of gas wears them out.

Have you checked the oil? Is the engine tapping when running?

i had the same problem on my 96 etc,there is a ground wire behind the drivers side kick panel that was broke ,i fixed it and have not had any more trouble.

idol air controler keeps car running at idol speed ,you can take it off and clean it with throttle body cleaner to get carbon off its located on throttle housing ,if this works or improves your problem at all get a new one...

Our 96 eldorado used to do the same thing. After trying everything and several mechanics, we decided to take it to a cadillac dealer. They said it was the battery that was not generating enough power to operate some switch. Changed the battery - voila - no more problem! Hope this helps you.

you have 4 o2 sensors on the new one 2 in front of catylitic converter and 2 after on the exhaust

check to see if the catalytic convertor is red hot after driving it,it could be plugged,it may also be a sticky thermostat,
