Sounds like you have a leaking valve cover gasket.
Have the sealing surface checked for damage and warpage and if all is well, replace the gasket.
You may also have a emmision system issue where the one way valve in the engine fume recirculating sytem is blocked allowing pressure to build up in the valve cover. This valve is usually located in the pipe which leads from the valve cover to the intake system. Remove the valve and clean it with kerosene. It should rattle when you shake it and you should only be able to blow air through it in one direction. when replacing it, make sure that air can flow from the valve cover to the air intake only, not the other way.
