My 2002 dodge durango hits 4000 RPMs and bounces between 3000 and 4000 RPMs when I am in park and have the throttle held down. I replaced the cam sensor and it is still doing it.

Chrysler products have a "feature" that sets the rev limiter lower when the vehicle speed sensor (VSS and it also runs the speedometer) is at 0.
This is normal operation. If it will pull to redline when the car is moving who cares if it shuts down at 4k in park or neutral. If you really need to rev it higher in the driveway you'll have to put it on stands and put it in gear.

This is your rev limiter stopping you from over reving engine causing internal damage. this is normal on all new vehicles. Don't know what year they started this but it goes back at least 16 yrs

Shift prob from 1rst to 2nd

This often happens because of faults in the gearbox. If it automatic transmission can also be caused by a faulty throttle position sensor.

I have a 2002 durango 4.7. I have a hard time starting it hot or cold.when i get it started it idles fine for a few minuts and then rpm drop and wants to stall out,The truck runs great wile driving but...

First off, how new is your battery and how many miles on the D? Dodge vehicles are very sensitive to a failing battery. Have it load tested, and if is the least bit flaky, replace it.

After that, the TPS or throttle postion sensor is your next.

As far as the revving up and down above 3000 rpm goes, that is the PCM protecting the engine from over revving.

2000 pontiac grand am 3.4 motor auto trans 4 door.Car starts and drives okay motor seems to stumble slightly between 3000-4000 rpms. with car stopped in park try to rev motor will only go between 3200-4000...

Hi Tom your vehicle is equipped with a Rev limiter it will not allow you to rev the engine above 4000 with the trans in park; as for the first problem you may have one of two things, one of the spark plugs or spark plug wires is bad or you have a flat spot on the throttle positioning sensor in which case have be replaced. Good luck?

2002 dodge durango revs up to about 2000-3000 rpms at idle. For no reason. Not pushing on the gas pedal. At idle, truck just revs up.

your Accelerator cable may be too tight and might need slacking off abit

However it could be timing screw is also incorrectly set.

Runs first gear to max rpms before shifting.

You probably have a bad governor pressure sensor and solenoid. The pressure sensor is what normally goes bad ,but from vast experience,i replace both of them together and change fluid and filter.
