Transmission not engaging from cold start. Fluid level within ok range. Transmission engages at high rpm with a jolt. Doesn't do this every time, but occasionally.

I am having a problem with my slk 230 (tiptronic). When i start it up and put it into drive mode there is a bang. this only happens when engine is cold. can you help?

Check your transmission fluid levels. If the fluid runs low the input shaft spins up to build up pressure in the torque converter. When the torque converter finally engages there is a jolt/bang. Every time this happens there is a massive impact on the input shaft, eventually it will shear right off and you will be left without drive and a big repair bill. Check the level on the transmission dip stick (at the back left of the engine) with the engine running and the car in 'Park'. Add more fluid via the transmission stick tube as necessary. Once the levels are OK the transmission will be smooth again.

1991 camry v6 - auto tranny shifts hard going into reverse and drive but otherwise shifting normal through the gears while driving.

Make sure your transmission fluid is fully topped up. If the transmission has to speed to build up fluid pressure there will be jolt as the drive is engaged from neutral. Make sure you fill up with the right fluid (use the transmission dip stick tube as the fill point). Also when measuring transmission fluid level have the engine running in 'park'.

there is a total of 27 diagnostic steps to follow, but here is some info for you:
SYMPTOM
P1740-TCC O/D SOL PERFORMANCE

WHEN MONITORED
The Torque Convertor Clutch (TCC) and Overdrive Clutch (O/D) will be tested each time the PCM requests TCC engagement in 3rd gear and O/D.

SET CONDITION
The code will set if the expected RPM drop is not achieved while attempting to engage TCC or O/D. This indicates a malfunctioning torque convertor or overdrive clutch.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
- Camshaft DTC present
- Engine RPM DTC present
- Fuel level low
- Misfire DTC present
- Output speed DTC present
- P1765 DTC present
- Park/Neutral DTC present
- PTO engaged (if equipped)

2000 Dodge Intrepid Transmission slow to engage

Only check the level when it has been driven and warm. And while it is still running. Now, for the slow engagement, It may be draining fluid back into the pan, from the torque converter. Let it idle a little while before trying to drive it. That will fill the torque converter back up, and will drive right away. Takes about 2 minutes of idle time to fill the torque converter. Now, drive it and then, while it is still running, in park, check the fluid level in the transmission. It very likely could be low and could also be the slow engagement cause.

Auto trans problem

Transmission fluid is low. Drive the car 15 or 20 miles to heat up the transmission. Check the transmission fluid level with the car running in neutral with the parking brake engaged. Add transmission fluid to come to the full mark. Go slow when adding fluid. DO NOT OVER FILL!! This should fix your problem.

1998 ford ranger 3.0 motor auto.transmission slips driven cold

what is the (revolutions per minute) rpm of your engine when the torque converter engages, was the torque converter rebuilt too? what type torque converter is in the ford ie low stall where it engages the gear box at around 900 to 1000 rpm. has there been any power band adjustment by the company that rebuilt your automatic transmission after the insallation.
