Engine diagnostic codes

My check engine light gives me 3 codes. 12, 21 & 52. what do these codes mean? It's a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500.

when starting my 1995 2500 dodge diesel pickup 4+2 extended cab 8 feet bed.

I have a problem with my over-drive transmission kicking out when going down the road also my tach-ometer quits& my alternator quits also. do you have any answer for I like my truck hate the diesel prices so can you help me Please, thank you for your assistance.

12..Battery was disconnected within the last 50 key-on cycles (Resets after 50)

They dont list the others may want to recount the flashes..

I don't have a dodge ram but the codes for the dodge vehicles where pretty much the same. For my intrepid the codes read for the following numbers

12 - Problem with battery connection (This usually happens if you disconnect the battery)
21 - Problem with the oxygen sensor circuit
52 - Oxygen Sensor signal input indicates rich mixture during engine operation.

It sounds like you may need to change an oxygen sensor. Hope this helps.

1995 should still be OBD I and you can retrieve the codes by cycling the key on and off 3 times within 10 seconds. Just count the flashes of the check engine light.

Have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes checked , follow diagnostic flow chart for said DTC , fix what the problem is , a sensor ,wiring problem , PCM - engine computer etc... then the MIL light will go off on it's own .

P1391 Intermittent Loss of CMP or CKPI don't know what it means but you could call a Dodge Dealer or mechanic and see if they will give you some insight on what it means.

What dose the code p1740 mean ? I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 v8 . I was driving it the other day and my check engine light came on with the code .

its a trans code that is manufacture controlled meaning the information for the code meaning is not required by law for them to describe. so my code lookup program does not have that info. but go to the dealer and if you can nice talk one of the techs and mabee he/she will look it up on the mds for you.

You will need to have a diagnostic test on this vehicle which will then provide you some error codes.Then once you get the error code you can start looking where the fault is.Hope this helps.

If the engine light remains on constantly then there is a code set telling you what the problem is. I suggest you find a mechanic who can read the code telling you the problem. It may not be noticeable to you but may cut your mileage or may be harming other sensors or parts.
