Hello Firefight253

Remember a starter is a DC motor with a Solenoid integrated onto it on GM's. So there is a short to ground either in the solenoid or the windings of the Starter. Replace the starter, or have a shop do it for you. Safety hint Please do not keep turning over the motor this short is just like directly shorting out your batteries they could explode.

Testimonial: "thank you very much i was told it could be the battery or the starter or the alternator and something called a bendix.I appreciate your solution."

Why won't my 2004 Tahoe start after battery change?

there i lots more to any starter, the permissive's
here is the list (and voltmeter tests for each)
  1. battery good. 4 lug ends clean and tight. no rust.
  2. all fuses good (oops forgot all those?) cab/bay all.
  3. key gets 12vdc power and ST pin goes hot cranking.
  4. PRNDL switch closed for park IF FAIL CRANK IN NEUTRAL
  5. OK STARTER RELAY CLOSES.
  6. NO IMMO FAILURES, lamp on dash happy.
  7. starter solenoid small lug goes hot, 12vdc
  8. starter cranks if not bad. or engine not seized.
  9. any tech knows how to hot wire any dead starter (keys in pocket)
immo mostly cuts spark then fuel but some rare cars cut ALL
if battery is bad, yes head lamps prove little, we jumper cable crank all dead starter now, watch the tow truck guy see?
Heads are 10amp starter is 300+ amps, apples and oranges not the same, see?

or get the car fixed in a shop as 99% do.
learn and do or get it fixed.
guessing fails mostly, use a voltmeter find the path to the point of failure,
keep that new battery charged or now you have 2 problems to fix.

What can cause no spark when cranking?

If your doing a lot of cranking and testing, You need to hook up battery charger or use jumper cables to see if spark comes back. Make sure the battery has a full charge and connections all good. Even if battery is only down a couple of tenths, it might make a difference. 12.6 volts is the generic spec for a full charge. I have seen starter motor taking all the voltage, not much if anything left for ignition system. Could be other issues?

How to fix an ignition problem on a bma?

An internal combustion engine needs 3 things to run: compression, fuel, and spark. Before throwing parts at the car, figure out what is missing that is preventing operation.

2002 yukon denali xl wont start

Does the starter crank the engine over? If so, check for spark on a spark plug wire when cranking. If you have a strong blue spark, ignition is probably good. Check fuel pressure. Do you hear the fuel pump turn on for 2 seconds when turning key to on?

Please help me with my Jimmy 1995 spark- coil sensors- fuel pump- starter all seems to be in order one day i had an underwash the engin stalled it would turn over but not start

you may have got the oil switch wet and it iscauseing the fuel pump not to work to test turn the key to the run postion (Not Start) listen to see if you here the fuelpump comes on for two seconds. does it? if yest then pull a plug wire and put in a screw driver in the wire and get it 1/4 away from ground then crank engine over do you get a blue spark? if yes you have water in the fuse box or in the crank or cam sesnor and you will need to buy a can of compressed air to blow them dry. Let me know if you need more help and thanks for using fix-ya.

Car has no spark has new coil & distributor

The only function of a starter is to turn the engine so it can start.(it does not make spark) I suggest you obtain a manual such as chiltons or haynes and do some testing. You will not get any spark if your crank position sensor or cam sensor is faulty or, if there is a problem with another ignition component you have not yet tested. Parts are expensive and often difficult to replace. No decent shop would guess and just throw parts at the problem till it's fixed, neither should you. Most tests can be done using a digital multi-meter.

My 99 f350 v10 wont start. starts fine for a couple of days then out of the blue it just wont start. replaced filter, throttle control nothing any help

You have replace filter-assuming air filter?
Throttle control? Are you checking to make sure you have Fuel spraying after you crank the engine?
1- Let's check this. AFter cranking for a while.
2- remove spark plugs see if it wet.
3- it if is, you have fuel Go to # 5
4- It if is not, then you don't have Fuel. Need to fix this.
5- Plug the spark plug as it supposely connected, but not screwing in. Hold it against the chasis and crank it up to see if it sparks. Need a helper.
6-If there is no spark. Need to fix this.
7- If your spark plug is wet and there is also spark, report back then I will provide next diagnoses. Good luck.

Engin does not start

no starter is not problem if it is cranking normally, that is all it does....no spark or no fuel is likely...if there is an odd rhythm to the cranking pattern have timing and basic mechanical health checked (compression test/leak down/primary and secondary spark)..good luck
