How to set & cancel theft deterrent system or how to set & cancel security system

Theft deterrent system (on some models)

Theft deterrent system is designed to deter vehicle theft. The system flashes the turn signal lights and turns on the interior light or the signal lights only (depending on the model), and sounds security horn and vehicle horn when it detects abnormalities such as follows:

• Any door or hood is forcibly opened.
• The batter terminal is disconnected and then reconnected
• The system control is disconnected and then reconnected.
• Abnormal impact is detected when the impact sensor function is on.

The system flashes the turn signal lights and turns the interior light or the signal lights only (depending on the model), and sounds security horn and vehicle horn if someone attempts to damage or break into your car.

Setting the system

You can set the system with or without the impact sensor function. For details, see "Canceling the impact sensor" below.

1. Turn the ignition key to "LOCK" and remove it.
2. Have all passengers get out of the vehicle
3. Push the lock (set) switch on the wireless remote control key once. At this time, the turn signal lights flashes once and the security indicator light comes on.

The system is set after 30 seconds. At this time, the security indicator light start flashing slowly.

Once the system is set, you cannot start the engine until you cancel the system.

The system will not be set in the following cases.

• When any of the door is open; security horn sounds for 1 second, close the door and set the system again.
• When the hood is open; close the hood securely.

Canceling the Impact Sensor

The impact sensor can be cancelled to prevent false alarms from being triggered incase of the following conditions:

• When parked in the noisy area
• The vehicle body or glass is subjected to a strong impact from the (such as in highly pressurized car wash).
• When transporting by a car carrier or ferry.

To cancel the impact sensor;

1. Lock the door by pushing the lock (set) switch on the wireless remote control key once, and turn signal light flash once
2. Then push the lock (set) switch twice within 5 seconds. At this time, the turn signal flash 5 times to indicate the impact sensor function is disable.

The impact sensor is deactivated as long as the system remained armed.

Canceling the system

The system will be cancelled by the following two ways:

• Turn the ignition key from "LOCK" to "ON" position.
• Unlock any of the doors by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch

If the turn signal lights flash 3 times, the system has been alarmed. Check to see if there is any abnormality with your vehicle.

If any of the doors is not opened within 30 seconds, all doors will be automatically locked and the system will be set.

When the system is set

Activating the system; When the system detects abnormalities such as follows, it flashes the turn signal lights and turns on the interior light or the turn lights only (depending on the model) and sounds the security horn and vehicle horn of 30 seconds.

• Unlocking any door without using wireless control
• Any door or hood is forcibly opened.
• The battery terminal is disconnected and then reconnected.
• The system control assembly is disconnected and then reconnected
• Abnormal impact is detected when the impact sensor function is on.

Reactivating the alarm;

Once set, the system automatically resets the alarm after the alarm stops.

The alarm will activate again under the same circumstances described in "Activating the system".

Stopping the Alarm

The alarm will be stopped by the following two ways;

• Turn the ignition key from the "LOCK" to "ON" position.
• Unlock any of the doors by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch.

The system can be cancelled by these ways at the same time.

If the battery becomes discharged due to the vehicle being unused, for a long time etc., when the battery is recharged or replaced, the system will activate the alarm. If this happens, immediately unlock any of the doors by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch, and the alarm will stop.

Testing the system

1. Set the system
2. Insert a wireless remote control key into the key hole on the driver's door handle, and unlock the door.
3. Open the door, and an alarm will sound.
4. Stop the alarm by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch.
5. Repeat this operation for the front passenger's door.

Good luck.

need to know where the tdm is on a 1997 Cadillac deville can't get security system to shut off should I replace ecm ? Please help

It's hard to get the SECURITY light to go off when you don't know how it works ! Replacing the PCM could cause you more problems too . If a replacement PCM is being installed it must be programmed (flashed) using the latest Techline programming procedures.
Having the vehicle check for DTC ' S - diagnostic trouble codes would be the first step.
DTC P1626 Theft Deterrent Fuel Enable Signal Lost
DTC P1630 Theft Deterrent Learn Mode Active
DTC P1631 Theft Deterrent Start Enable Signal Not Correct
DTC P1632 Theft Deterrent Fuel Disable Signal Received

This anti-theft system does not use a TDM - theft deterrent module . The instrument cluster is the controlling module . Look at a wiring diagram here
http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. year , make , model engine . Then under systems click on body & accessories , then in subsystem click on security / anti-theft . Click the search button , then on the blue link .You mite be able to do a by-pass if the contacts inside the key lock cylinder is the problem . You can check it with ohm meter . The key has a resistor pellet on the side , you can check the value with ohm meter , find the two wires under the dash at the steering column . Two white wires inside a yellow or orange sheathing . There are videos on youtube !

where is the theft deterrent module located (VATS or anti-theft module) in GMC Acadia 2007?

the exact spot ,huh?

first off the FSM book and alldata.com has that, and vast more.

but you asked.

first off its many parts, why not post symptoms first then ask for Vats.

not the immoblizer but just theft

this is CDC system and is not VATS

the compenents are: as follows:

The content theft deterrent (CTD) system, when armed, is designed to deter vehicle content theft by pulsing the horns and exterior lamps for approximately 30 seconds when an unauthorized vehicle entry is detected. However, the CTD System does not affect engine starting.

An unauthorized entry can be any of the following with the CTD System armed:

  • When the liftgate or liftglass has been opened without the use of the keyless entry system or without first being unlocked.

  • When any door is opened without first being unlocked using the keyless entry transmitter.

  • When the driver door is opened without being first unlocked using the driver door cylinder.

The components of the system are:

  • The body control module

  • The door ajar switches

  • The driver door key cylinder switch

  • The liftgate/liftglass ajar switch

end quote.

more quotes under what to do first

Diagnostic Starting Point - Theft Deterrent
Diagnostic Starting Point - Theft Deterrent
Begin the system diagnosis with the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle . The Diagnostic System Check will provide the following information:

  • The identification of the control modules which command the system

  • The ability of the control modules to communicate through the serial data circuit

  • The identification of any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their status

The use of the Diagnostic System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.

does this help, ????

2001 cadillac theft deterent wont let engine run

The theft or lock icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.
