There are many cases which can cause an engine misfire condition. The most possible causes are

Failed EGR/O2 Sensor/MAF Sensor/Fuel Injector
Presence of vacuum leak.
Failed head gasket.
Burned or leaking intake or exhaust valves
Worn out camshaft or crankshaft sensor/Spark plug.
Ignition coil has failed

Most cases a check engine light will be triggered . So if it is On in you car kindly have a scan done using an OBD scanner . It will throw the error codes and the exact area of fault can be identified

we just changed the clutch in it can that narrow it down at all

  • Anonymous Nov 07, 2010

No i think...But is the check engine light ON?

Can someone please explain Difference between codes P0341 and P0342 please?

The codes signify issue with the same component.

P0341 What the P0341 code means. P0341 is an OBD-II generic code that says the engine control module (ECM) detected the engine camshaft position sensor circuit is not within specifications. The sensor pulses do not correlate to the pulses of the crankshaft sensor.

What does the code p0012 mean

Hi Craig, hope your doing well today. The code you have P0012 means: Camshaft Timing Over-Retarded. It could be the Camshaft Position Actuator on Bank 1 or Computer and even Wiring Related. Without checking it out there is no way of knowing which is the problem. Unless you have a lot of money and just want to try the actuator, I suggest you have it checked out. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Craig!

Nissan altama 2005 3.5 l v6 problems are running smooth when engine is cold 5-10 min there us a problem with engine vibrations on the stop i get the trouble code which is po0011

Here is the definition. You may want to do some research on the code and the valve that controls cam timing.

P0011 NISSAN Description This valve mechanism hydraulically controls cam phases continuously with the fixed operating angle of the intake valve.

The ECM receives signals such as crankshaft position, camshaft position, engine speed, and engine coolant temperature. Then, the ECM sends ON/OFF pulse duty signals to the intake valve timing control solenoid valve depending on driving status. This makes it possible to control the shut/open timing of the intake valve to increase engine torque in low/mid speed range and output in high-speed range.

The intake valve timing control solenoid valve changes the oil amount and direction of flow through intake valve timing control unit or stops oil flow. The longer pulse width advances valve angle. The shorter pulse width retards valve angle. When ON and OFF pulse widths become equal, the solenoid valve stops oil pressure flow to fix the intake valve angle at the control position.

EL VEHICULO TIENE PERDIDA DE POTENCIA Y EN EL SCANNER MUESTRA LOS CODIGO PO0011; PO0012

P0011 - "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1)
A code P0011 refers to the VVT (variable valve timing) or VCT (variable camshaft timing) components and the car's PCM (powertrain control module, also called an ECM). That consists of a few different components but the P0011 DTC specifically refers to the camshaft (cam) timing. In this case, if the cam timing is above a set limit (over-advanced), the engine light will be illluminated and the code will be set. The "A" camshaft is either the intake, left, or front camshaft.

Potential Symptoms: Most likely a P0011 DTC will result in one of the following: hard starting, poor idle, and/or stalling. There are potentially other symptoms as well. Of course, when trouble codes are set, the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp, a.k.a. the check engine light) illuminates.

Causes: A P0011 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following:
Incorrect camshaft timing
Wiring problems (harness/wiring) in intake timing control valve control solenoid system
Continuous oil flow to VCT piston chamber
Failed timing valve control solenoid (stuck open)

Possible Solutions: This DTC code is a result of a mechanical fault of the VCT unit or related components, so there is no need for electrical diagnosis. Refer to vehicle specific repair manual to perform component tests for the VCT unit. Notes: Dealer techs have advanced tools and the ability to follow detailed troubleshooting steps, including the ability to test components using a scan tool.

The main thing to check is to verify the operation of the VCT solenoid. You're looking for a sticking or stuck VCt solenoid valve caused by contamination. Refer to vehicle specific repair manual to perform component tests for the VCT unit.
