2000 beetle clutch plates were making noise with the car in neutral and stopped when clutch pushed in. I was driving it and when I pushed the clutch to the floor it made a weird clicking sound, then I had nothing. Couldn't go but car was still running, I can put it into gear without pushing the clutch down but the gear won't engage. Help!

The slave cylinder for the clutch may have failed, or it is out of fluid, it may have a leak. check to see if the fluid level is ok for clutch. could have a leak in the syatem, or maybe the clutch cable is broke or out of adjustment.

My wife has a Peugot 307 petrol engine. When pulling off from cold, there is a grinding / grating noise. It only occurs when the car is moving and lasts 1 to 2 minutes. Dip the clutch and the noise...

Sticking clutch throw-out bearing arm or linkage/cable, or pedal, so that throw-out bearing is just barely and intermittently touching the throw-out plate of the clutch. Depressing the pedal slightly engages the bearing to the plate causing positive drive of the bearing, quieting the noise. After running a while, the bearing moves sufficient distance to disengage. Next time it happens, with the vehicle stopped, in neutral and with the parking brake set, stick your toes under the clutch pedal and pull it back, see if the noise stops or changes..

Grinding when clutch is not engaged. Sound goes away when clutch IS engaged (i.e. pushed to the floor). Only makes noise when you let clutch out and while driving. Makes noise sitting in neutral too.

the throw out bearing is what I am thinking Sue.
may as well have a new clutch put in too as its the same amount of labor to do the whole thing as it is to just replace the throw out bearing.

I have a 2000 vw beetle turbo manual transmission when i try to drive it it is not going into each gear could it be the clutch?

Does it grind the gears in the transmission. If yes, it could be the clutch/pressure plate. It could be the clutch hydraulic slave cylinder not working. Check all these thing out before purchasing a new clutch/pressure plate. When VW is running does if like the vehicle has no get up an on like maybe the clutch is slipping. GB...stewbison

Idle up and down when Neutral

Hi
The clutch perssure plates seems worne off. you will have to replace them .
You can start by adjusting the clutch setting ...drive for a few days and if still problem persists then go in for a pressure plate change..

When clutch pushed in it makes high pitched squeel

Im a mechanic, i think you will find it will be the clutch release bearing on the clutch fork, when you push the clutch in it will push the fork which will push the clutch release bearing onto the clutch plate which rotating with the engine revs

2000 Beetle Turbo

Sounds like your Clutch is not disengaging properly. Do a test.
Find a Steep hill and try clutch control, if your Clutch is high, which means you are bringing your foot up more than usual, then your Clutch cable or plates could be worn. Suggest you get someone to check it out for you, but could be expensive to replace.
