2004 bmw 5 series has squeak coming from back of rear seat. my guess is the metal seat frame is rubbing against something metal. how do i remove the seat back? i get the seat bottom cushion off easy.

look at front part of Seat for either pull tabs or screws or bolts. If still puzzled ring BMW Service department and ask how to remove bottom seat. (can't remember exact method its been a long time since I used to install car phones in BMW's and removed the back seats )

Most rear seats need to be unlatched from the very bottom on each side. Try sliding the driver and passenger seats fully forward. With your back against the front seat press forward toward the trunk on the bottom of the rear seat on one corner at a time near the floor and lift up. This should release the latch. To replace the seat simply slide the seat back into place with the front slightly raised upward and push the seat in toward the trunk then push down til you hear the latch catch.

My bmw dealer said that the Mass Air Flow Sensor needed to be replaced. The car would not run. It will start, idle. upon excelleration it chokes and dies. The "check engine" light is on. I disconnected the MAS and the car runs fantastic. SOOOO, I ordered a MAS and installed it. Reconnected the unit and the same problem occured. Is there a fuse relay under the hood or back seat that I can replace?

Remove the two plastic covers around the seat belts then pull straight up on the front of the seat (it may take a sharp tug)

if you have an entire headlight assembly (in case of accident) remove bumper, there are 8mm screws on the inner lining of the fron wheel well where the fender plastics and the air dam connect to the bumper, undo the screws concerning the bumper on bot sides of the car. then remove the plastic cover under the bumper (either philips screw heads or 10mm) and then under the aluminum re-enforcement strip behind the bumper (access from under the car) remove the torx screws that hold the bumper aluminum to the car frame, get a friend to help you pull the bumper off evenly an then seek the 8mm screws that hold the headlamp in place. the headlamp comes off the car strait out the direction of the front. disconnect the wires and connect the new lamp and fasten to the car. then do the assempbly in reverse order for the bumper installation.
for just changing the bulb, there are some rubber seals behind the light where the bulb rests. there are metal clips than you depress to release the bulb. install a new bulb and then replace the rubber caps.

To remove the rear seats, force your hands under the front of the seat bottoms and lift with a quick, short tug. The bottom cushion lifts out with no tools. There will be a couple of bolts holding the seat backs in place.

how about brake calipers?

squeaky noise is common from brake pads going against the brake disc.

This is caused by lose calipers or stiff calipers unable to fully open up. This makes the brake pads very close to the brake disc.

When you are travelling at a certain speed, tension on the wheels may cause it to incline inwards or outwards at a very small degree but that is enough to get the brake pad to rub against the disc causing the squeak.

Another possiblity is the brake disc rubbing against the disc guard. Usually metal and behind the disc. You said you had a collision, this may have distorted the disc guard causing some parts to touch the brake disc.

there are 2 cables that come out of the motor that operates that feture. Over time the outsdie tube of the cable streaches, causing the cable that turns inside, to come out of the transmission is drives. One way to fix this is to remove this cable and shoren the outside tube by cutting it, and then re-insall back into the transmission. This is a 50/50 chance repair. The correct way to cure this issue is to replace the lower seat frame. $$$

1. Release pin from locks by pressing release button under rear seat cushion.

1. Pull rear safety belt and buckle (60044) through openings in rear seat cushion pad and frame (600A88) and remove rear seat cushion pad and frame .

1. To install, reverse Removal procedure.

1. Remove rear seat cushion as outlined.

1. Remove rear seat bolster. Refer to Section 01-05 .

1. Remove rear seat bolster mounting bolts. Remove bolster assembly.
2. Remove four seat back to package tray retaining bolts.

1. Remove seat back.

1. To install, reverse Removal procedure.

It's under the back seat on passenger side. Give the end of the seat a good upward yank and it will pop up
