Problem is with 2003 Nissan Sentra - was left parked 3 months w/out starting, came back won't turn on, battery completely drained. Had new battery put in, new spark plugs, added 3 gallons new fuel plus additive, disconnected alarm, checked/cleaned air filter/intake hose. Now I get crank and will turn on for few seconds, then die completely (lights, radio, etc. all work fine now), try to turn on again and it won't start until I let it sit for a few minutes, then it will start again, but die few seconds after. The check engine light is now on. Any suggestions?

MIGHT BE A RELAY ! LOCATED UNDER HOOD, YOU SHOULD SEE RELAY BOX NEXT TO BATTERY. MAKE SURE BATTERY TERMINALS ARE CLEANED, PUT SOME VASOLINE ON TERMINALS, RECONNECT, TIGHTEN. CHECK ALL GROUND WIRES. ARELAY BOX MAY ALSO BE LOCATED NEXT TO POWER STEERING . COULD HAVE A FAULTY SOLONOID@ STARTER, IGNITION SWITCH COULD ALSO BE FAULTY, ITS NEVER EASY TO PINPOINT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, PROCESS OF ALIMINATION, CHECK ALL STARTING CIRCUIT SYSTEMS, IS YOUR SHIFT LEVER ALL THE WAY IN PARK ? DOES ENGINE CRANK ? OR DEAD, NO POWER ? ARE YOU GETTING SPARK ? HOW ABOUT FUEL ? DID YOU REPLACE BOTH THE AIR &FUEL FILTERS ? THE STARTER / SOLONOID IS WHAT CRANKS THE ENGINE, I THINK YOUR PROBLEM IS THERE ! REPLACE RELAY TO STARTING SYSTEM, ARE YOUR SPARK PLUG WIRES NEW ! THEY WILL SHORT OUT ANY SPARK IF OLD, DIRTY, I SUGGEST A TUNEUP, NEW FILTERS, AND REPLACE STARTER/SOLONOID !!!!!!
check to make sure the alternator is charging the battery.crank engine while idling the alternator out put should be 13.5 volts to 14.5 volts. if not alternator is not charging the battery.if alternator is charging battery.the battery is weak.if its over 5 years old its more likely battery.if battery not old checks out good .replace battery cables..
are you sure the alternator is good? because it could be tricky ...The only other thing is the wire running back to battery pack to charge battery maybe disconnected
You have 2 Problems, First problem batteries dying you have to make sure connections secure and alternator is charging your batteries (go to an Autozone or Discount advanced they will tell you). The Sputtering is either a bad SPARK PLUG or a damaged Cable going to the spark plug..Change them every 2 years.
Get a Chiltons/Haynes manual for your make/model/year and go to the troubleshooting section. It sounds like the same thing my little rabbit did years ago. Turns out it needed new fuel filters and the fuel tank flushed. The gunk kept impeding fuel flow. Didn't do good things for the fuel pump either.
