Well you have a leak in the gas tank or in the fuel line which brings gas from the tank to the engine. You are going to have to put it on a lift or jack it up and put it on jack stands to find where the leak is. If it is the tank you are going to have to drop it and get it fixed or replace it. If it is the fuel line then you are going to have to splice in a new piece of line. Note do not use anything which could cause a spark, or heat. The chance for a very bad accident or explosion is such that you may want to have a shop do this unless you have a lot of mechanical experience which I am guessing from your question you do not have.

Gas or oil leak? Gas leak can turn the light on. Oil doesn't. Try to notice where the leak is under the car on the ground. Look under the car and see where the leak is on the frame. All this helps. Have the codes read.

Ouch! First, clean up the gas! move the car to avoid fumes which are very explosive. See if you can find the leak from under the hood. Place catch tray under car and turn on key for just a moment while someone else looks for leak. Wear eye protection.
If you don't find it, jack car up and place on jack stands. Roll under car and determine where the leak is. If you can't find any obvious leak, look for very clean spots where gas has washed away the dirt. Use only battery operated lights to avoid possible spark.

Smell of gas while driving
If you smell gas while driving, check for leaks first.
Look under the chassis near the gas filler neck. Check under the hood for raw gas odor around the engine. If your hoses are not leaking, your car may need a tuneup. It could be burning too rich.
