check your thermostat or try run your motor with the thermostat removed.If heating up persists your might have a blown head gasket or maybe you just need to bleed the cooling system of air bubbles

YOU COULD HAVE A CLOGGED LINE! TRY REMOVING BOTHE ENDS OF LINE, AND BLOW AIR THRU IT! THEN TRY BLEEDING THEM TO GET FLUID THRU LINES

the generic way to bleed any cooling system is this, raise the car front end up as high as poss with a floor jack, top off the radiator and fill the coolant recovery tank all the way up, run the engine until it gets hot but do not overheat it, allow the engine to cool the system will self purge of air and pull the needed coolant into the engine from the recovery bottle, after this is done check the levels, repeat if ness.

There;s no two way's about it you'll have to remove transmission, put car up on jack stand's, then remove driver shaft, remove linkage or stick shift and all elec. connection, remove line going to slave cylinder( you'll need a line disconnect tool napa has it part # 775-9086), remove starter assembly, remove all bolts around trans bell housing, pull trans away from engine, slave cylinder slide on input shaft of trans, remove slave 10mm bolt's and replace slave. after all reassemble bleed clutch system

Not likely! cause the length wouldn't be right or the way it mounts. You could use one off of another cougar within a couple years make of yours.

This is extremely important on some cars, for instance my BMW. 1. Have the car parked in a slight uphill slope. Make sure there is enough coolant in the expansion jar.
2. Start the engine and wait for the thermostat to open (upper radiator hose becomes warm).
3. Open up the radiator bleeding nipples slightly with a large screwdriver (bleeding nipples normally made of plastic with a '+* for a screwdriver to fit, at the highest points in the cooling circuit).
4. Allow air bubbles to fizzle out until you get a steady stream of coolant leaking out, use rags to capture leaking coolant.
5. Then close the bleeding nipples, switch off the engine and wait a few minutes for pressure to come down.
6. Open up the cap on the expansion vessel carefully and fill just below the "hot" marking.
7. Check levels again after a few miles and refill further if needed.

My 1999 Cougar started running hot and I took it to my mechanic and he found that the water pump belt was broke. Replaced belt and all is well. Hope this help.

it is located under the dashboard against the firewall of the passenger seat. i recomend buying a repair manual from your local auto parts store before attempting as it requires draining, flushing, refilling and bleeding the cooling system as well as removing many other componets like the entire dashboard and thermostat
