There are 2 kinds of speed sensors:
Wheel speed sensors, which are located behind the wheel
Vehicle speed sensor, which is usually mounted on the side of the tranny.
Wheel speed sensors are related to the abs (antilock-brake-system).
Vehicle speed sensors operate the speedometer.

Not sure where you can find a picture besides a repair manual, but the sensor is located on the pass side of the car below where the lower radiator hose hooks up to the engine, look straight down you will see a sensor with three wires going into it, two 10mm bolts hold it down.

there 3 sensors, the first is the speed sensor located on top of transaxle, then the NC speed sensor located rear of transaxle and the NM speed sensor located on the front of transaxle,(transaxle = transmission) there are a couple of solenoids also, heres a diagram to help you, hope this is helpful.1153eae.gifee00b4d.gif

91 speedometer and miles
I have a 91 Accord. When I purchased it, the speedometer did not work. I replaced the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) and the speedometer started working again. I paid $24 for the sensor on ebay. The local part stores wanted $150. It's an easy fix. It takes about 20 minutes to replace.
