SLUGGISH TRANSMISSION 2002 LINCOLN LS, HAS SLUGGISH TRANSMISSION,SHOULD I FLUSH OR JUST REPLACE FILTER AND CHANGE FLUID

Discribe sluggish. Changing the fluid has nothing to do with shift stratagy or correct trans operation. Change the filter every time you do the fluid, unless your just pulling the plug every year or so,to change some fluid.
These vehicles have a tendency to have a bad Trans Solenoid Pack. If it bangs into reverse or shifts funny around 35 to 40 on a slight hill, that part may be going bad.
You need a proper working EGR Valve and TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) also.
Don't forget to flush the Power Steering Fluid--although unrelated to the trans.

Trans--Mercon V Fluid
Steering--Mercon (Not V)

Should you flush or change your transmission fluid on a 2005 Lincoln LS with 125,000 miles?

I would recommend the flush due to all of the fluid is pushed out with new fluid so it should push the old out with the new . I've never flushed one and it cause to stsrt slipping . If you have metal shavings on the clutches you may need to do a clutch replacement and you may be smelling a burnt clutch . It's smells awful like rurnt eggs or something awful . I would definitely look into where the shaving are from and if it's gonna keep hitting whatever it's hitting before I replaced the fluid . Trans fluid I cheap and if you change it and shavings is still generating then you wasted your money on the fluid change..

I just had the transmission fluid and filter changed on my 2002 lincoln ls now the vehicle is overheating very quickly, what could be the problem?

Check for obd2 codes & see if the trans temp
sensor shows up
If you had the trans fluid then you got problems
& may have to change the trans solenoid pack
If your asking about the motor then it is a different
unrelated issue

How often to change tranmission fluid on a 2002 lincoln ls

Hi Gary,

There is a small dilema here. The Owner's Manual for your Lincoln says to refer to the Maintenance schedule to find the proper interval for replacing your transmission fluid. Here is where the problem arises: The Maintenance schedule published for your vehicle says to replace the transmission fluid at 30,000 mile intervals for several transmission models. Then it "excepts" the models that are not lsted by transmission model number in the preceeding text - yours is not listed.

Then, when I go to the service manual and search by your vehicle (2000 Lincoln LS) it says to replace the transmission fluid at 30,000 mile intervals without any exceptions.

Here is what I recommend to my customers:

CHECK the fluid every 30,000 miles and REPLACE the fluid and filter every 60,000 miles. I have found that this works for almost every make and model out there. I have several customers with over 300,000 miles on their cars that have never had transmission overhauls.

I have a 2003 lincoln ls with 110,000 miles and there is a hard **** when it is about to go into 3rd gear; there is also a hard **** when I put in reverse. I am told that I need a solenoid assembly...

You need a new Trans Control Solenoid--one unit with all 3 pressure control and 4 shift solenoids, in one unit.
Remove trans pan, gasket reusable, remove filter, remove 7 torx screws and one 10mm wire harness connector bolt, then pull down old solenoid pack.

Part # 9L2Z7G391A 515.30 list/332.20 cost at trans supply house

Do Not Go to a Dealer, unless your Warren Buffet or Bill Gates

Change the fluid a couple more times, after installing the new solenoid pack, and driving a couple weeks with no issues. Add a bottle of Red Lubgard, to your Mercon V Trans Fluid, at the last fluid change

Also--pull injector fuses, crank over engine, and flush Power Steering Fluid. (Dex/Merc Fluid)

2002 lincoln wont go forward but goes in reverse

Start the engine and allow it to get to operating temperature.

Place the gear selector in Reverse, then slowly through all the forward gears, while holding the brake.

Replace the selector in Park, but leave the engine running.

Check the transmission fluid level.

If low, add fluid until level is correct, then repeat above procedure and check fluid level again to ensure that transmission is filled to proper level.

If level is correct, perform fluid/filter exchange. If problem persists, see qualified service technician for further diagnosis. Transmission damage will require overhaul to repair.

Does the transmission fluid need to be changed in a 2002 lincoln ls

The transmission fluid and filter should be replaced every 30,000 miles if not once every two years. If you do most of your driving on the hyway , you can wait till 45,000 miles before you service the transmission. Good luck

My 2000 lincoln ls transmission is slipping only when i give it gas

have you ever had the trans fluid changed? it's a 9 year old car, its due. check the fluid, if it smells burnt- the clutches are fried. time to overhaul it or buy a rebuilt trans. the worst thing i seen people do to their car is while sitting at a stop light ( that has a slight incline) and not keep their foot on the brake. just letting the car hold itself while waiting for the light to change. (been there, done that, now i have a new trans).
