A dirty air cleaner will cause an engine to use lots of fuel and still appear to run fine especally in cold weather. If you have not changed your air cleaner in sometime do so and note the difference.

Also a sticking EGR valve i.e stuck closed at highway speeds / passing / starts and stops can rob you of fuel economy.

If you know any half way good backyard auto mechanics they will know how to test an EGR valve with an external vacuum hose.

Thanks for using FixYa!

My Daihatsu Terios kid 4wd kissmark 2006 is consuming too much fuel at 7-9km per litre. What's problem and remedy

There could be several reasons why your Daihatsu Terios is consuming too much fuel. Here are some possible causes and remedies.Driving habits: Your driving habits could be the cause of the high fuel consumption. Aggressive driving, speeding, and rapid acceleration can all increase fuel consumption. To remedy this, try driving more conservatively and avoid sudden stops and starts. Tire pressure: Low tire pressure can increase fuel consumption. Make sure your tires are properly inflated to the recommended pressure levels. Air filter: A dirty air filter can cause the engine to work harder and burn more fuel. Replace your air filter regularly to keep it clean and functioning properly. Fuel injectors: Dirty or clogged fuel injectors can cause the engine to burn more fuel. Have your fuel injectors cleaned or replaced if necessary. Oxygen sensor: A malfunctioning oxygen sensor can cause the engine to burn more fuel than necessary. Have your oxygen sensor checked and replaced if needed. Spark plugs: Worn or dirty spark plugs can cause the engine to run inefficiently and burn more fuel. Replace your spark plugs regularly to keep them functioning properly. It's important to have your vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic to determine the root cause of the high fuel consumption. By addressing the underlying issue, you can improve your vehicle's fuel efficiency and save money on gas in the long run.

The 2E is a 1.3 L (1,295 cc) SOHC version with three valves per cylinder. Output ranges from 65 to 88 hp (48 to 66 kW; 66 to 89 PS) at 6,000 rpm with 72 lb?ft (98 N?m) of torque at 3600 rpm to 77 lb?ft (104 N?m) of torque at 5200 rpm. It appeared in 1985, and was discontinued after 1998. The 2E engines appeared in both carbureted and fuel-injected (called 2E-E) versions. The 2E-TE, appearing in 1986, is a turbocharged engine producing 101 hp (75 kW; 102 PS). A later version, the 2E-TELU produces 110 hp (82 kW; 112 PS).

Toyota corolla specifications

fuel consumption of engines is a question very often asked and seldom answered adequately. There are so many variables that affect consumption so I will give a few
tyre pressure and size
ambient temperature
condition of engine
load carried
number of passengers
weight of driver
dragging brakes
extras on vehicle (roof rack)
wheel alignment
tread pattern of tyres
driving habits
speed
driving conditions (town-country)
driving conditions ( hilly --flat)
road surfaces
slipping into neutral at lights
the list goes on and on so be guided by the expected average of the manufacturer of between 8 litres to 10litres per100kilometers travelled

I have a 3s 2000cc egine, the problem is high fuel consumption. Imagin 1lt only going for 6km. Please help.

Hi there,

As you have not stated the vehicle MODEL or Year of Manufacture, I will provide a 'general' solution:

There could be numerous causes for high fuel consumption, but if you have used this amount of fuel in such a short journey, there would have to be leaking fuel somewhere.

However, the only true method to measure "ACTUAL" fuel consumption (disregard trip computer) is:

- Completely fill tank to a pre-determined point inside the fuel tank filler tube.
- Set your cluster Trip Meter to: 0000
- Drive vehicle for 6 - 15km and return back to the same gas station pump used previously.
- Completely fill tank to the same point inside the fuel tank filler tube, where filled previously.
- Note the quantity of litres required to fill to that same point in the filler tube.
- Divide the litres used, by the total Km travelled on your Trip Meter.
- If the value calculates less than 20 (carburettor engine); less than 15 (EFI engine), then consumption is acceptable.

Note: if value is above these numbers, then you have a fuel leak, or a problem with your vehicle's carburettor adjustment. EFI engines can have numerous causes, including electronic sensor faults etc.

Cheers,

FUEL CONSUMPTION

The fuel consumption sounds about right for a turbo, perhaps a little high. Hwy consumption depends on how you drive. If you cruise at 100 kph, you should get around 8 L/ 100km. Round town, about 10 L / 100km.
