It sounds like the starter safety switch is bad. It prevents the car from starting in other gears beside neutral. Try placing the gear selector in neutral and see if it starts. If it does not, then the switch needs replacing.

Passat 2.0tdi electric drive motor error 01602 car wont start?

For safety requirements you cannot start the car in gear . It has to be in neutral or park before it will engage the starter or if manual box you will need the foot on the clutch and in neutral as well. Some even require the hand brake to be applied also

I have a passat 2006 fsi. The Parking breaks wont release after pressing the release button

I had the same problem on my Passat Variant 2007.
Randomly Park Brake won't activate and/or deactivate once button PB pressed.
The cockpit computer tells "Park Brake Error" (or something similar).
If this is your problem, the issue is very well known to VW Service centers.
I had solved it by bringing the car to the Service: The told me that they substituted the ParkBrake Button (a differently made one, even if identical on the exterior) and Reprogramming (Updating) the car computer software.

My 2002 passat wont shift out of parking

there is a safety switch on most cars that wont let you shift from park without applying the brakes. its usually located on the brake pedal. if thats defective, it wont allow you to move the shifter normally. sometimes, it can also be located on the transmission. im not too familiar with volkswagon, but either way, I believe that switch is your problem.

2000 Passat ignition key stuck in ignition

make sure park is fully engaged, shift in and out of park a few times, there is an interlock that keeps the key from comming out unless the park position is fully engaged, this may be sticking or be defective or out of adjustment..

Headlights out on a 95 passat wagon

Sounds like the headlight switch itself... You can verify by removing the switch and checking continuity across the switch (with a meter or powered test light) in the on position... hope this helps...;-)

95 passat vr6 giving problems

Adjust or replace the shiftlock sensor. It unlocks the shifting mechanism when you put your foot on the brake.

If there is an ignition problem, the tumbler will need replacement soon. This can be caused by an overloaded keychain. Best to do it now while it still is working, then have it fail and leave you stranded.
