2004 Chevy Silverado Z71 low fuel light comes on when full tank

When I'm sitting at a light or anywhere for a few minutes, my low fuel light comes on. As soon as I hit the brake or gas it goes off and the gas gauge returns to actual condition. It does not do this every day or at every red light but I'm concerned that eventually it's going to leave me stranded.

SOURCE: 2001 Chevy Impala gas guage incorrect

The level sensor is bad. They are easy to do. You don't have to pull the fuel tank down. There is an acsess hole in the trunk. Look in the rear of the trunk at the rear of the seats. You will notice there is a spot in the middle that the capet comes together, Pull them apart and there is metal plate with some 10mm nuts, pull that off and your fuel pump is there, remove and replace the sensor.
Also there will the a code in the pcm. you will need to clear it to pass emissions

SOURCE: 2002 Chevy Suburban: Fuel gauge reads empty, tank is half full

Youre gauge is controlled by a plunger in the fuel tank which is attached to the sensor and the fuel gauge. it sounds like when the plunger goes down half way its either getting stuck down lower then it should. Needs replacing. Any mechanic can do this install for you.

SOURCE: 2001 chevy silverado 4.8 gas gauge not working properly

Fairly common problem with GM vehicles. The sending unit in your tank has a small circuit board that an arm is attached to which moves up and down according to your fuel level. This circuit board and arm are not making good contact. Unfortunately the only good solution is to replace this part.

Testimonial: "thought probably that was it but better off replacing whole unit .i was for for gauge proplem thanks. "

SOURCE: gas gauge malfunction and engine light stays on

This is a common problem with Malibu's. It is due to cheap metal in the fuel gage that corrodes. Chevrolet knows about this but they refuse to issue a fix. The check engine light staying on and the faulty fuel gage are related. This is a defect and they need to recall this part! Raise hell with the dealership!

SOURCE: The gas gauge on my 2002 chevy venture is not

Hi:
Your tank sending unit is bad. Unfortunately, it is part of the fuel pump assembly, and the part costs around $400, give or take. plus installation labor. It is an all too common problem on GM vehicles, as I have had to change it on my last 2 GMs. If you do an internet search you will find plenty of others in the same boat!

2004 Chevy Silverado 2500 hesitates when driving and then won't start.

I would just about bet a weak fuel pump. With a scan tool connected you can monitor your fuel pressure thru live data. Low fuel pressure will not set a check engine light except if the O2 sensors register a lean condition.

Where is the fuel filter on a 2004 z71 4x4 silverado vin code T?

Should be on the frame rail on drivers side. In the area of where the driver sits. Follow the two metal lines from the tank to the engine bay and you'll find the filter.

if it is the fuel level sending unit you will have to replace the pump because they are a 1 piece assambly. it will be a task to change too as you will need to either remove the truck bed or drop the fuel tank to get to it.

Where can i find fuel filter on 2004 silverado?

i own a 2004 chevy z71. general motors did not put an external fuel filter on these trucks in 2004. EPA was trying to get them to do things with as few connectons on the fuel system as possible so there wouldn't be as many places to leak!!!! the fuel filter is built into the fuel pump/sender unit. it is all one piece design you cant even see the filter whith the pump removed you have to change the complete pump assy. i recomend using an oem part from you chevy dealer. parts house pumps dont usually last that long. i work at a carquest and we get bad pumps back alot they dont usually last but about 3 months

The stepping motors in the gauges go bad. do a search on ebay for CHEVY SILVERADO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER for cheaper repair options. The dealer charges around $300.00. It will continue to worsen.
