How do you replace the third brake light bulb on a 2004 Hyundai Accent 2dr hatchback?
It's not impossible people! You will however need more than just a screwdriver.
This is for a 2004 Hyundai Accent 3 door (i.e. Hatchback)
Open the rear door to get to the stop light assembly. Directly under (or above now that the door is open and it is upside down) the light case is a small rectangular panel that you can snap out using a flathead screwdriver.
Once removed you should see 4 hex bolts. Remove these (a ratchet is the easiest way to go) and you should be able to pull the light case free of its mount. NOTE: You will notice two pegs or tabs helping to keep the case in place, a bit a wiggling may be needed to free them.
Once it is hanging free, you will need to remove the 6 screws on the bottom holding the case together. With these removed the back should come off and you can get to the bulb.
The replacement bulb I purchased was a Sylvania Long Life number 921. Pull the old bulb out (it may need some force/wiggling but be careful not to break it), and slide the new bulb into place. I would recommend checking that the new bulb is functioning at this point, while everything is still disassembled.
If everything is working... then replace the bottom cover, replace the 6 screws, slide the whole case back into place, replace the 4 bolts, and finally snap the panel cover back into place.
This whole process should take no longer than 20 minutes.
Hope this helps... Cheers!
