Hello. Begin by checking the fuse that controls the sunroof, just look in your owner manual under fuses and you will find a diagram and location for where to look. If the fuse is bad, replace it with a new one of the exact same amperage. Also, use a can of pressurized air [like a computer duster] and clean the rocker switch that controls your sunroof, try to blow air behind it on both sides. Finally just rock that switch back and forth rapidly several times which may break the motor free so it will work again. Regards, Joe

First off, you should leave it closed. At least you can drive it that way. The grinding could be the motor itself, or a gear inside that has rounded or broken teeth. Another possibility is that it has slipped out of a channel or track. Unless you're pretty handy this sounds like a professional repair job.
