The switch or the wire harness at the blower motor has gone bad. The highest setting 5 has no resistor, so the blower runs on high but the high current flow ends up burning up the switch's contact on that setting or the resistor wire harness at the blower motor has gone bad. Common would be the switch it self, if the switch is good. Then it's going to be the wire leads at the speed resistor by the blower motor under the glove box by the passenger leg compartment. Keep me posted, be glad to help you get your Sierra running 100% again soon.

Heater switch does not work in all setting's 1 to 5 on a 1996 gmc seirra truck

Problem need a heater/ac fan motor, which is around $25. If you still have problems then you need to replace the relay switch.

Gmc 2006 Sierra fan switch was not working on all settings now after being set on high it would not shut off then it stopped but smoke began coming out from under the passenger side dash

There is a resistor board in there that controls the voltage to the blower fan. When the resistor dies the fan only runs on high. The bad part is it overheats the wires and starts burning things. You will probably need a socket and pigtail too. Both available from the dealer. Usually not very expensive and you can do it yourself.

GMC Sierra A/C Stops Cooling After Driving a Few Minutes

It sounds like you either have an condensor fan problem or low freon. The condensor fan is near the radiator. In some cases the radiator fan doubles as the condensor fan. So look there too.

Fan speed switch only works on #5

Call your local GMC Dealer and see if they have the climate control panel in stock. What happens is the circuit board on the back of the panel shorts out. The panel comes as an assembly and is very easy to replace. Don't go with a wrecking yard piece. I made that mistake once and it didn't work either. I got one from the Chevy dealer and it worked perfectly.
