I have no power steering and the the power steering malfunction light is on
My RX8 had the same problem. First, change your battery cable ends. On the Positive cable there is a white wire that powers the power steering. It probably has a bad connection at the battery post. I cut the end off my rx8 and just put a regular battery cable end on it and my problem was solved.
After I posted this, I drove my 8 with no problems for about three weeks. Then the power steering went out again. I pulled the breather box out and checked the continuity on the wires between the torque sensor and the eps module. I found 1 wire that had an open short. I repaired that and it works for now.

The rx8 system is elecrrical and does not have a pump or resivour you need to be checking the rack or control unit
Solution 2 is incorrect, the rx8 doesnt have pump or fluid level, it is electrical. check ps connector and clean if that doesnt work need to reconfigure the rack unit itself, if that fails, unlucky is the owrd of the day, you will need to replace the whole rack unit, cost can vary, used but reconditioned unit £400-£600 new one can cost £900 - £1200.
You have to check any belts and fluid level. If everything looks noramal. replace the power steering reservoir and pump.
