I have a 99 Lincoln Continental. The battery light has been coming on when accelerating (sometimes flickering other times solid) some times the radio shuts off. I cleaned the battery connections and took the alternator to be checked. Was told the alternator is good. Any ideas?
In fact the Alternator is on it's way out, I had Taurus that was doing the same thing. When the RPM's were over 3000 the light would flicker. What happens is, the slip rings wear and get out of round and when the RPM's get too high the brushes start to bounce causing the light to flicker. Keep in mind the alternator is spinning about 3 times the speed of the engine. Pick up an alternator it's just a matter of time, mine went about 6 months like that, try to keep the RPM's low.
Bummer, now I feel bad. I guess my thoughts now are poor connection somewhere. Do you have a DC voltmeter that you hook up to the battery, to see if it actually quits charging, when the light comes on? There is 1 large wire (Bat) that goes to the alternator and a plug with 2 or 3 small wires one of those small wires tells that light to come on. I don't have a wiring diagram for that car, so I can't even tell which wire. But, do all those wires appear to be in good shape? Also check the ground wires to make sure the connections are clean and tight. Check under the dash too there are usually ground wires up under there that can come loose. I'm sorry I can't be of more help but, electrical problems can be a bugger to find when you the car in front of you, let alone trying to do it via email.

I changed the alternator. No luck. The belt is tight. Any other suggestions?
