Here is the sensor location on the 2005 STS. My understanding is that on the 2005 it sat over the exhaust cam sprocket and on the 2006 it sits over the intake cam sprocket. That should be no problem as there will only be one to locate.
I had the same problem for about five months, sometimes the car started for two months than all of a sudden it make take anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour to get it to turn over. Final analysis (when it finally would not start for two days) a new starter was needed. (2001 Cadillac STS)
Hi there, This problem is most commonly caused by a weak fuel pump. It will need to be checked with a fuel pressure guage. If you can obtain a fuel pressure guage you will need to observe the fuel pressure while accellerating to see if it drops out. good luck
Most affordable possible solution is to give it a transmission tune-up. Transmission number one problem is neglect. Change the oil, filter and pan gasket. You'll probably need to take the pan off, very messy job. Take the pan off, carefullyscrape all old gasketmaterial, clean the pan with dish washing soap, dry it completely, put a bottle of Lucas for transmission in the pan. Put some Indian Head Gasket Shellac Compound on the pan gasket surface. Set the gasket on the pan, keep the gasket on the pan for three minutes then install. Don't put any Shellac on the transmission gasket surface nor on the gasket. Follow recommended directions for filling the transmission with oil.
