I have a 2003 Hyundai Sonata, got it in 2004 as a leftover. I only have 26,800 miles on car. I have never had a problem with this car unti Sunday, I started driving down my block, the car bucked a few times and the car just died on me. I was stuck in the middle of the street. I called a friend and he gave me a jump, I drove it back to my parking space. The next day I was going to go to autozone to have them test the battery and again, as I was driving, it just died on me. Everything still worked (lights, radio, interior light, etc) but it would not turn over. Again, called my friend and tried to jump it, but this time it would not turn over. He finally found some loose wires and tightened them. thought that did the trick. tonite, went to warm up car and it ran for about 5 minutes and it just stopped. Alternator was tested and it was fine Could it be the battery? or something more serious?
Not the battery. Once the car is started, a bad battery will not cause it to stop running all of a sudden.
For engine to run you need - compression, air, fuel, spark.
Might want to check out your ignition coil for an intermittent condition - try replacing it.
And if it does not turn over(crank) check the wiring going to the starter motor, solenoid, for good connectivity. And make sure that your fuel pump is always getting power and pumping.

The same thing happened to me yesterdag on my hyundai accent 1.5 SOHC (2000). I was driving 130Km/h and suddenly the ignition failed. When restarting everything looked fine. A few weeks ago the engine wouldn't start, it cranks but doesn't start. I replaced spark plugs/wires.
I noticed the following, the second most left warninglight with "key-symbol" didn't light up when trying to start. after disconnecting the battery cabel (+), en after 15 minutes reconnecting it. The problem dissapeared. To me it seems the problem is the Immobilizer. (i'm not sure if this is the right name for it in english, it's called "Startonderbreker" in Dutch.)
Hope this will help.

the alternator can die out slowly you may have a bad wiring harness too but yes it can die out slowly
SOURCE: Car stalled and won't start again
Sounds like it might be either the fuel filter or the fuel pump, cause if you ran the tank down, you probably had sludge in the bottom of the tank that you sucked into the engine, you can try using a fuel system cleaner, you may have sucked sludge into the injectors running it, Zmax sells a fuel system cleaner, or there is one called RUN RIGHT, I would try putting some of that in letting it sit a few min then after it sat a few to soak in and break down the sludge, then start the car up, kick your idle up to around 1500 RPM do not go higher then that cause you will damage the engine, try that and see if that works for you, if not then I is probably the fuel pump or filter.
hope this helps.

My 2004 Sonata is doing the same thing. The engine light comes on and then the engine just dies. My mechanic put it on the diagnostic machine and can't find anything wrong with it. So did the crank angle sensor fix the problem on your car scottyinauss? I am going to print out your input and take it to my mechanic. Thanks.
