Suspect it could be tank unit this is similar to a ball valve in a toilet .float arm moves up or down depending on fuel level sends reading to gauge situated in fuel tank sometimes part of the fuel pump

How to replace temperature sensor in vW golf citi 1.4i 2006

I am driving VW Citi golf sport 1.4i,every morning whn is cold my car couldn't start, after many attempts it would and when I try to accelerate it will choke. After buying the temperature sensor my problem was solved. the mechanics advised me to buy petrol filter and petrol gauge regulator and a petrol pump, thanks I didn't buy them. Only a temperature sensor made my car a comfortable drive.

I have a 2001 Ford Focus with 2.0 litre engine, 16 valve Zetec engine. The fuel tank gauge was working fine until I put gas in and the tank gauge shows empty and the fuel tank light is on. ( instrument...

could be stuck or the sender unit has failed and most likely cause is the float has filled with petrol but without a removal of the sender unit and an inspection its only speculation

Speedo not working , vw golf 2001 .

I tell you for sure that is the sensor problem from gearbox.the sensor, or the wire. The fuel gauge is connected to the gearbox because is not very nice to corner and the fuel gauge go up and down. Now because the fuel gauge "didn't know" how many miles did you made, he is moving up and down. All recent cars have the same problem, and had the same problem on my girlfriend Golf 4. It was the wire. The mecanic forgot to put it back.

VW Golf 2000 Faulty Speedometer & fuel gauge

Hi you need to check the wiring into the back of the instrument cluster first, sounds like a bad conection, you could also have a faulty intank sender unit for the petrol gauge.these cars are known for dash failure and can only be programmed by the dealer(UK) they also suffer with corrosion to the in tank pump/sender unit plug.if you disconnect the plug (ignition off) you can see and clean if required.

Petrol gauge was working fine before a 5 week holiday. Car not used during this time. Now petrol gauge shows tank empty, even after I had filled the tank. What is wrong? How do you fix this?

sounds like the float is either got a hole in it and is full of fuel, or the whole float assembly is seized in the empty position.
was the car left for 5 weeks empty of fuel?

FUEL GAUGE AND LIGHT STAYS ON NEARLY EMPTY AFTER PUTTTING IN PETROL.WHATS THE MOST LIKLY FAULT. DODGY GAUGE OR FLOAT IN PETROL TANK.THANKS FLYNN.

Do you mean that the gauge registers as empty, even after the tank is filled? Probably the sending unit needs to be replaced (it's in the tank, likely partially attached to the fuel pump).
