The 3344 2017 model experiences a gear engagement issue when coming to a dead stop, required the driver to switch off the truck before gears can engage properly again. Fault codes GS22, GS24, and GS28 are present.
I would check to see if the fluid is low, and replace it with Honda manual transmission fluid first. Honda manual transmissions originally used engine oil, never gear oil, then Honda came out with manual trans fluid. Either would work, but the Honda manual fluid would be better.
is the shifter sloppy? if so the isolator bushing is worn out and allowing the stick to move farther than the actual shifter which would cause the gears to not fully mesh
More than likely it's not the linkage. Sounds like the fourth to fifth synchronizer is very badly worn, which will cause the shifter to "pop out" of fifth gear.
gear has been overloaded, 5th is an overdrive gear, not to be used for high load applications,eg.overtaking. stop using 5th gear or replace transmission.
On my 93 S-10 Blazer there is a small cable that goes from the shift lever to the gear indicator. As you shft gears it pulls the indicator with it. that cable may have come off or broken.
