Have you checked your air intake system? A clogged air filter will severly limit the amount of air that it can get, or a leak in the exhaust driving the turbo will limit the amount of pressure to spin it. Start by putting a new filter on it. Then if that makes no difference, you can check the waste system by installing a boost gauge, so as to check how much pressure you're actually getting to the manifold. If boost is normal, then you need to look for fuel system or mechanical factors.

I have problems with the turbo of my Passat 2002 TDI Sometimes it stops working other times it works perfectly. What factors affect the turbo performance. Is the oil type, or coolant a factor?

The wastegate controls the operation of the turbo, it directs exhaust pressure to the turbo, If it does not function properly the turbo will act erratically

1997 Passat TDI has no acceleration

Check the mass airflow sensor, this is quite a common fault as they easily get contaminated with oil. This damages the delicate element inside. It is mounted between the air filter box and the hose down to the turbo, it is held in by torx headed bolts and has a multi plug that needs to be disconnected. Cleaning it with spray brake cleaner may work if not it needs to be replaced.

Loss of power noisy engine turbo does not come in on a 19 tdi volkswagon sharan

Well,

The turbo bearing is gone. The turbo is not able to create enough boost. A local mechanic is going to have to change out the turbo. This is an expensive repair.

Good luck

Turbo lag and lack of power

Hi,
This is the second Vw I have responded to in a fortnight.
Your lack of power I presume always happens when the glow plug light illuminates?
This is because it is causing over combustion to vaporised diesel, I would be looking in the Glow plug timer and relay, as for Turbo lag, I run a E34 6 cyl Bmw Diesel and the Turbo only kicks in around 2,500ish so maybe yours is a little tired or in need of a check up?
Hope this helped,

19 tdi loss of power

I have a 1999 VW golf tdi with intermittent loss of power. The turbo will cut in for a few seconds, then die forcing you to change gear and get a small boost again. The turbo will not boost much past 2200 rpm. The cars computer has been plugged in at the garage and does not show any problems. Various people have said, replace turbo, air mass meter or just simply wash turbo filters in WD40. Can anyone help?
