Purpose of a vehichle throttle body

Hello! The throttle body is the part of the air intake system that controls the amount of air that flows into an engine's combustion chamber... It consists of a bored housing that contains a throttle plate (butterfly) that rotates on a shaft... When the accelerator (gas pedal) is pushed down, the throttle plate opens and allows air into the engine.. When the gas pedal is released, the butterfly closes and effectively chokes-off (throttles) air flow into the combustion chamber... This process effectively controls the speed of the engine and ultimately the speed of the vehicle...Guru...saailer

Gas pedal unresponsive

Try this: Go to your local parts store and purchase a can of (throttle body cleaner) you will take your air filter out and remove the big tubing that is connected to your throttle body and filter housing. Spray the cleaner inside the throttle body, open the (butterfly) and spray around the pivot the butterfly opens and close on. What happens is you get carbon build up in these areas and it causes the gas pedal to feel like it's stuck and have to apply more pressure to the pedal. You will see alot of black carbon run out of the throttle body. Take a clean rag and wipe down the area of the throotle body. Repeat the cleaning 1-2 times. put your air inlet tubing back on and re-install your filter. It may seem hard to start at first but it's drying out the cleaner that was sprayed inside the body. Try this and see if this works. I've done this on many vehicles that shops want to charge $300 to do and all you need is $5 cleaner. It's very easy to do and takes 20 min.

2005 Mazda Tribute gas pedal freezes in cool weather

Throttle cable could be binding inside the housing that attached to the throttle body. Also the throttle positioning sensor could be faulty as well.

2000 toyota tundra has no throttle response during extreme cold

This throttle body has a TPS ( throttle position sensor) and a Accelerator pedal sensor on it. The TPS is on the drivers side and the APS is on the pass side of the throttle body. When this happened your check engine lite came on then went off when it warmed up and acted normally. The code is still in History codes. Check it with a scan tool. I foget the code number but if it come up with the APS code in History, replace that sensor....not the TPS. It is a sealed sensor that gets moisture in it when the seal deteriates and it freezes in very cold weather.

Sticky gas pedal

it is a dirty throttle plate. $280 is an absolute ripoff for a cleaning, it is about 10-15 minutes of work. They are probably quoting replacing the throttle body which about a $150 part.

Got to Autozone and get "CRC Throttle Body Cleaner". Remove aire inlet hose at throttle body with a screwdriver. Spray a *small* bit onto throttle plate, use clean rag or qtips to remove gum/varnish. Spray pivots and also clean around perimeter of the plate. Take it to an independent mechanic if you are unsure of the procedure.
